Venture into Namadgi to discover its Aboriginal heritage. Experience wonderful birdlife, picnic and fishing spots and fantastic bushwalks with scenic views. Hire a Personal Locator Beacon from the Namadgi Visitor Centre if you're going to be hiking in remote areas. Enjoy ranger guided walks or escape into the rugged Bimberi wilderness. Horseriding and mountain biking is permitted on some of the fire trails while campgrounds are located in pleasant bushland settings - ask at the Namadgi Visitor Centre. Namadgi National Park is located at the northern end of the Australian Alps, 45 minutes drive from Canberra city.

Drive up through Duntroon to the top of Mount Pleasant for beautiful views over Lake Burley Griffin, the Duntroon Royal Military College and Jerrabomberra Wetlands. Canberra Tracks signposting has wonderful historical facts about the areas below. Visit the grave of General Bridges, Australia’s highest ranking soldier in World War I. General Bridges was the only Australian soldier killed at Gallipoli to be buried in Australia.

This nine hole course sits within the picturesque grounds of the Royal Military College of Australia at Duntroon. Membership is open to the general public. The course challenges and caters to players of all skill levels. All players are made welcome in a friendly and congenial environment. Bookings are essential. To get to Shepherds Lookout, start at the parking area three kilometres from the last traffic island on Stockdill Drive. Walk through Woodstock Nature Reserve to Shepherd’s Lookout for an impressive view along the Murrumbidgee. The return walk is only 600 metres; an easy 45 minutes. Look out for the ACT border, three kilometres downstream. It's marked by power lines over the river. Dogs are allowed on a lead.

Uriarra Loop

Allow 2 to 2.5 hours for this 3.5 km walk with sandy river banks and views. It's mostly flat and easy. Watch out for the steep rocky section along the Molonglo River before the track leaves the river. Make use of toilets, picnic tables and wood-fired BBQs at Uriarra East and West Picnic areas. The walking trail is marked by a series of totems. Signage is being upgraded to provide more information. Dogs are allowed off lead at Uriarra East and West picnic areas but not on walking tracks, except from Stockdill Drive to Shepherds Lookout.
