The multi award-winning tourist attraction – The Perth Mint, is one of the world’s oldest mints still operating from its original premises and one of Western Australia’s most historic buildings. The Mint was established in 1899 as a branch of the British Royal Mint to refine gold from Western Australia’s newly discovered goldfields and to strike gold sovereigns for the Empire. Behind the majestic wrought iron gates that were locked to the general public for more than 90 years, it now unveils a wealth of treasures, welcoming visitors to experience one of Western Australia’s premier tourist destinations. A pure gold rush awaits as the Mint gives you the opportunity to experience the excitement of the early gold rushes, see the harsh conditions endured by prospectors seeking their fortunes, and be captivated by a traditional gold pouring performance in the original Melting House. You can handle more than AUD400,000 worth of gold bullion, discover the value of your weight in gold, strike and engrave your own personalised medallions, and admire Australia’s largest collection of natural gold nuggets and hundreds of gold bars, from around the world, gleam from the darkness of the original 1899 vault.

Discover the charm and history of All Saints Church in Henley Brook, which is the oldest church in Western Australia. Taking three years to build by one of the early pioneers of the area, Richard Edwards, the church has been hosting services since 1841. Wander around the quaint church and examine the craftsmanship of the early settlers. Walk through the cemetery and read the inscriptions on the gravestones of significant pioneers who developed the colony, including William Mackie, Frederick Irwin and John Connolly. The site of the church holds great significance as it was here that Captain James Stirling camped in 1827. As stated on a sign at the entrance of the church grounds, “it was here the vision of a State arose in his heart and mind.” All Saints is a popular tourist attraction for visitors touring the Swan Valley. After exploring the charming church, relax on the banks of the Swan River, which flows behind the church. Pack a picnic lunch and enjoy the tranquil setting. The Old Mill, also known as Shenton’s Mill, is one of Perth's most distinctive historic landmarks. Built in 1835 to grind flour, the mill played an important role in the survival of the early Swan River colony. Perth's first flour mill contains many historic pieces and relics of the early pioneer days. The mill is a stone structure, which has been plastered and limewashed. The simple clear lines of the mill make it a picturesque early colonial building. The thick stone walls give it the character of a fortress. Built by William Shenton it is located in South Perth, on the Swan River, the main transport channel for the settlers. Milling ceased in 1859 and the buildings were used for a variety of purposes including an early picnic site, a residence, a wine saloon and a poultry farm. To protect the site the government declared it a recreation reserve in 1932. In 1957 it was leased to a private company for restoration and as a repository for historic items. The Old Mill passed the National Trust in 1992. Take a tour to fully appreciate the significance of this old building, and learn more about the lives of the early settlers.
