The recently established distillery Kangaroo Island Spirits (KIS) is South Australia’s first and only boutique distillery producing a range of high quality liqueurs and spirits, including some made from local and native ingredients. A small and growing business, KIS partners Jon and Sarah Lark began the business in December 2006, making a popular lime liqueur. The range now includes a honey and walnut liqueur, anisette a strawberry and vanilla liqueur and recently a Limoncello, with more products being developed. All the products are handmade in small batches using hand crafted copper pot stills. Jon and Sarah are also working towards producing quality spirits from local barley and wheat to make traditional premium Vodka’s, Gin and a single Malt Whisky. Experiments with Kangaroo Island surplus potatoes are also being considered. Products are available in discerning local restaurants and outlets. The cellar door is open Wednesday to Sunday, 11am to 4pm or by appointment.

The False Cape vineyard was established in 1999 by the Follett family of Langhorne Creek, who have had a long association with Kangaroo Island. The Follett’s began grape growing in Langhorne Creek in the 1880’s and more recently established the award winning Lake Breeze winery. They have embarked upon a journey to produce some of the best quality and value wines on the island. The False Cape vineyard is located four kilometres inland from the rugged south coast between Penneshaw and Cape Willoughby and was selected specifically for its terra rossa soil and cool maritime conditions. The wines produced here exhibit excellent varietal characters and intense colour, and with carefully cellaring will age well. The False Cape range of wines, including our gold medal winning Sauvignon Blanc and trophy winning Cabernet, are available for tasting at Sorrento’s Restaurant at the Kangaroo Island Seafront Resort, overlooking the ocean at Penneshaw.

One of three original cottages built at Kingscote in 1856. The cottage has a collection of items depicting the early settlement of Kingscote, the site of South Australia's first official settlement, including the history of many early pioneers, photographs, automobile memorabilia, laundry display and an original cellar that can be viewed. The display includes a large range of obsolete farm machinery, tractors and engines including the Ruston Hornsby engine which powered the electricity supply for Kingscote before the introduction of electricity from the mainland and a restored pre-diesel internal combustion engine. Some of the tractors and motor vehicles are still operational and more items are regularly obtained and restored. The Lighthouse tower with light assembly was brought from Cape Willoughby when it became obsolete with the introduction of mainland electricity to Kangaroo Island in 1968. A good view of the town can be seen from the balcony of the tower.
