Metung is a small Village of 550 permanent residents located on a narrow peninsula of land separating Bancroft Bay from Lake King. Situated in East Gippsland and ideally placed with the surrounding protected waters of the Gippsland Lakes (400 square kilometres) Metung is a comfortable 3.5 hour drive from Melbourne. Metung Visitor Information Centre is centrally located in the Village and is open seven days per week (closed Christmas Day) and can assist visitors to Metung and surrounds with local information, a free accommodation, tour and activity booking service in this picturesque Village located on the Gippsland Lakes. The Visitor Information Centre can also help with information on day boat hire, overnight cruiser or yacht hire, scenic cruises, galleries, restaurants, cooking school, walks, sightseeing, wineries, food trails, tours and scenic drives. They are able to assist with their free accommodation booking service, whether it be a motel, bed and breakfast, waterfront apartments, cabin, cottages and houses either in the village or the surrounding area.

The Rural City of Wangaratta encompasses the close surrounding townships of Oxley and Milawa (Milawa Gourmet Region), Moyhu, Cheshunt and Whitfield (the King Valley), Glenrowan (Ned Kelly Country), Eldorado (Goldmining), Boorhaman (Buffalo Brewery), Tarrawingee, Everton and Springhurst. Wangaratta itself provides the ideal base to tour the region with a broad selection of accommodation including motels/hotels, bed and breakfasts, caravan parks, self-contained properties and rural cottages. The variety of restaurants, unique hotels, cafes and bakeries offer an endless array of fine food, superb wine, and an atmosphere to suit any mood. The surrounding area is a labyrinth of activities such as performing arts, cultural and musical festivals, historic towns, goldmining and bushranger history, waterways and natural attractions and rich wine and food regions. Wangaratta is located just 2 1/2 hours north of Melbourne along the Hume Freeway and also has daily rail services between Melbourne and Sydney stopping at the Wangaratta station. The popular Great Alpine Road, winding through Bright and Mount Hotham and over to the Gippsland coast, starts from the township of Wangaratta making it an ideal place to stay the night and rest up before your journey over the mountains. The Wangaratta & Region Visitor Information Centre is a Level 1 Accredited Centre, open seven days a week from 9am to 5pm. Staff can help with you with all your enquiries and assist you with planning your holiday to the Rural City of Wangaratta and surrounding regions. Recently relocated to the historic former library building the Wangaratta Visitor Information Centre is a state of the art facility. The centre includes interactive, interpretive and multi media displays that give visitors a taste of what they can experience while in the region. The Mildura Visitor Information and Booking Centre is a fully staffed and accredited information and booking centre. The courteous staff can assist with information on the many attractions, accommodation venues, tours and cruises, in the region.
