Suncorp Stadium, Queensland

Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium, known to locals as ‘The Cauldron’, is renowned as Australia's premier rectangular sporting facility. The 53,000 capacity venue plays host to Rugby Union, Rugby League, Soccer and local and international concerts.

Just minutes from the city centre in the Brisbane suburb of Milton, this world-class, state-of-the-art sports venue has a special place in the hearts of Queenslanders as one of the sporting cathedrals of the state and city. Every year more than 1 million people attend events at Suncorp Stadium.

It is home to the National Rugby League team the Brisbane Broncos; Rugby Union team the Queensland Reds; and the Brisbane Roar soccer team. Suncorp Stadium also hosts the National Rugby League's annual ultimate grudge match between Queensland and New South Wales called the State of Origin. Outside the stadium there is a statue of famous former Australian National Rugby League player Wally Lewis, who his fans called ‘The Emperor of Lang Park’.

A tour of this historic site will provide you with the opportunity to learn about the stadium, from its early days as a cemetery, through its time as Lang Park and on to the redevelopment into the world-class facility in its current form. You’ll go behind the scenes to areas usually reserved for stadium members, media, and elite sportsmen.

The areas surrounding the stadium were amongst the earliest parts of Brisbane to be settled by Europeans. The streets of the nearby suburbs of Milton and Paddington, which were first settled in the 1850s, showcase stunning examples of early Australian architecture. It’s one of the best places in the city to see the traditional ‘Queenslander’ - timber houses on wooden stilts that dot the hills amongst large, leafy tree-line streets. It is one of Brisbane’s most sought after addresses with cosmopolitan bars, cafés and restaurants and one-of-a-kind boutiques, antique shops and designer fashion stores.

Visit the home of Queenslander’s favourite beer at the XXXX Brewery in Milton. The tour takes you through the operations of one of Australia’s oldest breweries, before being rewarded with a tasting of the famous golden ale.

Head towards the river and stroll along the riverside walkway to the famous heritage-listed Regatta Hotel, one of Brisbane’s oldest pubs which has been serving cold beers on its outdoor verandas since 1886. It’s a great place to relax and soak up the true ‘Aussie’ lifestyle.

Cruise on a City Cat along the Brisbane River to the city and tour the newly restored Brisbane City Hall and Museum of Brisbane. If you’re feeling adventurous, you could take the Story Bridge Adventure Climb, one of only three bridge climbs in the world. From the top you’ll be rewarded with breath-taking 360-degree views over the city including a bird’s-eye view of the Suncorp Stadium and ‘The Gabba’.

Suncorp Stadium is easily reached on Brisbane’s public transport network.
There are regular bus services, which increase in frequency when matches are played at the stadium. Milton and Roma Street are the main railway stations closest to Suncorp Stadium.
