Unique experiences to celebrate PLAN Australia’s 10th birthday

PLAN Australia’s 2009 National Conference encourages participants to “Celebrate and Accelerate”
Event Type Event Type: Conference
Delegates Delegates: 450

Date Date: 2009
The 2009 PLAN Australia Conference enabled delegates and sponsors to meet together to celebrate the 10th Birthday of PLAN Australia, rather than hold five separate state conferences. Cairns was chosen the perfect location for the Conference’s “Celebrate and Accelerate” theme, and the theme was brought life by Imaje Events, Shoot the Moon and the Cairns Convention Centre.

Celebrations included a welcome sponsors dinner and the gala awards dinner, and keynote and motivational speakers kept up the ‘Accelerate’ theme during plenary sessions held over two days.

The welcome sponsors dinner at the Cairns Convention Centre was ‘A Taste of Cairns’, with reef, rainforest and outback zones which creatively used all spaces available:

  •  Blue fabric covered walls with fish, nets and shells all lit with special lighting effects
  • The rainforest theme included a living rainforest with characters and drop tables with green fabric with fine mesh and candle lamps enhancing the atmosphere.
  • The outback zone used black draping on the walls with a backlit silhouette of a hill and windmill with hay bales and wine barrels dotted around to provide impromptu seating. A small stage area was surrounded in corrugated tin with dry grasses and Australian trees and shrubs.

State dinners were held on the second evening at four restaurants located on the Cairns Marina Boardwalk. The evening ended at Bar 8 with live music by The Soul Sisters.

The event was concluded with the gala awards dinner and PLAN Australia’s 10th Birthday Celebrations held in the Great Hall of the Cairns Convention Centre. The stage set included a giant inflatable cake complete with candles and fake flickering flames.
