What’s new in Australia

Australia has seen huge growth in its business event offering, with world-class facilities opening across the country.

Sydney

Sydney’s The Star complex offers an event centre like no other, with development on the harbourside property completed.

Launched in January 2013, The Star’s purpose-built event and entertainment centre has seating for up to 1000 banquet style and 3000 in a tiered auditorium, or can accommodate 4000 in concert style.

Set to showcase spectacular productions and events, the new $100-million facility offers state-of-the-art technology to the glass complex, inspired by Sydney’s reflective city lights.

Brisbane

The first Traders Hotel in Australia has now opened in Brisbane, operated by Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts. The centrally-located 191 room property boasts seven meeting rooms which can be converted into a ballroom for up to 500 delegates.

Visitors can make the most of the sunshine state’s tropical climate with Trader’s mix of indoor and outdoor pre-function areas. After a busy meeting or conference, delegates can retire to their rooms that overlook the lush Roma Street Parklands and Brisbane’s city skyline.

Adelaide

The Adelaide Convention Centre has opened four new function rooms that overlook the River Torrens, taking advantage of the picturesque setting.

One of the four rooms, the Riverbank Foyer, looks directly onto the Riverbank precinct, towards the north of the city and provides an ideal location for pre-function and cocktail events.

Meetings in the riverbank rooms will soon be serviced by a new dedicated office, set for completion in 2014, exclusively for conference organisers and clients.

Perth

Crown Limited has announced the development of a new six star luxury hotel to be known as Crown Towers Perth.

Upon completion, Crown Towers Perth will be the city's largest hotel offering close to 1,200 rooms. Construction will commence in early 2013, with an expected 2016 opening date.

Darwin

SKYCITY Darwin has positioned itself as one of the Northern Territory’s leading luxury resorts with the opening of its $40 million redevelopment at Mindil Beach. Only moments from Darwin’s central business district, SKYCITY caters for groups of 20 to 10,000 guests.

The new resort includes 32 luxury guestrooms, two super villas with adjoining VIP gaming rooms, a swim up bar, restaurant, Asian style day spa and tropical lagoon swimming pool. The Lawns outdoor space

can cater for up a 5,000 guest gala dinner or a 10,000 pax standing function, and the Grand Ballroom holds up to 500 guests.
