National Capital Treasures
: After checking into the historic Hyatt Hotel Canberra, take a chauffeur-driven tour of Australia’s national monuments including the National Library, Parliament House, Old Parliament House and the High Court. Drive up Mount Ainslie to understand Sir Walter Burley Griffin’s vision for Canberra and see kangaroos graze on the hillside. After lunch at the Boathouse by the Lake, walk or cycle along the lake’s foreshore, then return to the hotel to freshen up for cocktails at the top of the Carillon. Cocktails are followed by dinner in the elegant Great Hall at Parliament House.
Day 2: It’s an early start to go hot air ballooning over Canberra. After landing on the lawns of Old Parliament House, head to the Australian Institute of Sport to breakfast with some of Australia’s elite athletes and learn more about working as a team. You’ll then visit Canberra’s National Zoo and Aquarium to meet and pet a cheetah, feed a tigon (half lion, half tiger) and lunch on the private balcony. The afternoon is yours: either be pampered in one of Canberra day spas or go rally car driving on Mt Stromlo. Tonight, dine at the National Museum, where the galleries will be opened for your private viewing.
Day 3: After a late breakfast at the National Botanic Gardens under soaring eucalypts, and surrounded by native birds, head out of town to visit the antique stores and craft shops of Gundaroo and the Poachers Panty smoke house and winery. Lunch will be at Grazing, a modern restaurant located in a classic Aussie pub. The evening begins with a private tour of the Australian War Memorial followed by dinner on the observation bridge overlooking ANZAC hall.
