Australian Capital Territory itinerary
From wildife experiences to hot air ballooning, find out what Stu and Samuel did in the Australian capital of Canberra. |
 |
Day 1 – Canberra
Samuel and Stu arrived in the Australian capital in the late afternoon, meeting for the first time in front of the Gallery of Australian design. Home to Australia's Federal Parliament and a treasure trove of national museums and galleries, Canberra radiates out from the shores of Lake Burley Griffin. It's also known for its expansive parks and native bushland. From the city, it's a short drive to wineries, quaint country towns, national parks and the high country of the Australian Alps. Samuel and Stu spent their first Canberra evening dining on pizza in New Acton. |
 |
Day 2 – Tidbinbilla
Samuel and Stu enjoyed half a day in Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve, a heavily-forested valley framed by the rocky-topped mountains of the Australian Alps. Tidbinbilla teems with native wildlife such as koalas, emus, kangaroos, wombats and possums, many of whom were in the audience for Stu and Samuel's musical collaboration. The area also has rich traces of Aboriginal culture and many walking trails, including the climb that the musicians tackled to the top of Gibraltar Rocks. The pair devoted their afternoon to musical collaboration before heading to dinner. |
 |
Day 3 – Lake Burley Griffin and the National Gallery of Australia
The musicians took in great views of Canberra's national attractions as they pedalled around the shores of Lake Burley Griffin on a four-wheel bike. They also visited the National Gallery of Australia, browsing the country's largest national art collection and taking a guided tour through the 13 Aboriginal art galleries. These showcase more than 7,500 Aboriginal works, including the Aboriginal Memorial, constructed with 200 hollow-log coffins from Arnhem Land. Also on display are dot and bark paintings, watercolours, textiles, prints, ceramics and sculptures. In the evening, Stu and Sam dined at a popular Malaysian eating house in the heart of the city. |
 |
Day 4 – Hot air ballooning
The musicians woke early for a dawn hot-air balloon flight over the city. They watched soft morning light fill the valley as they floated over iconic national buildings such as Old and New Parliament House, the National Gallery, National Museum and War Memorial. Later in the day Stu and Sam took a behind-the-scenes tour of the Canberra Glassworks in the historic Kingston Powerhouse. They heard the unique soundscapes of glassmaking and crafted their own objects under the guidance of an experienced glass-blower. In the evening, Stu and Sam enjoyed dinner in one of Canberra's top Italian restaurants. |

Day 1 – Australia Zoo
Samuel and Stu spent today touring Australia Zoo, established in 1970 by Steve Irwin and his family. They cuddled koalas, fed elephants and spotted snakes and giant crocodiles. The musos also visited one of the world's largest wildlife hospitals and learnt about local conservation initiatives. It was then off to Hervey Bay, Australia's whale watching capital. Sitting on the Fraser Coast, Hervey Bay offers easy access to the southern Great Barrier Reef and World Heritage-listed Fraser Island. |
 |
Day 2 & 3 – Fraser Island
Stu and Samuel spent two days exploring World Heritage-listed Fraser Island, the world's largest sand island and the only place on the planet where rainforest grows on sand. The sandy highway of 75 Mile Beach leads inland to the rainforests of Central Station and magnificent freshwater lakes, some which are tea-coloured and others which are clear and blue. Spectacular Lake McKenzie, Lake Wabby and Lake Birrabeen and crystal-clear Eli Creek are some of the most popular swimming spots. The island is also home to the coloured sand formations of The Pinnacles and the historic Maheno shipwreck. Named 'K'gari', meaning 'paradise' by its Aboriginal owners, Fraser Island was home to the Butchulla people for more than 5,500 years. |
 |
Day 3 & 4– Noosa
The musicians ended their Queensland adventure in Noosa, a relaxed resort town fringed by pristine beaches and bushland. They followed walking trails through Noosa National Park, spotting koalas and exotic birds and stopping at panoramic coastal lookouts. A leisurely cruise around Noosa Sound morphed into an exhilarating speed boat ride along the Noosa River, past Noosaville, Tewantin, Lake Cooroibah and Lake Cootharaba. In the evening they dined along Hastings St, a stylish strip of bistros, boutiques and beachfront apartments. |
