Sydney experiences and attractions
Sydney Harbour islands
Sydney has six unique islands in the middle of its harbour, providing a very different perspective on the city. The Sydney Harbour islands are Fort Denison, Shark, Clark, Rodd, Goat and Cockatoo. The Sydney Harbour National Park encompasses most of the harbour islands and the foreshore. The islands have great cultural and historical significance. Some of the sites resonate with Aboriginal history, while others reflect a European past with convict-built structures and old forts. Fort Denison houses the historic Martello Tower, the only one in Australia and the last ever constructed by the British Empire.
Catch the ferry from Circular Quay to Fort Denison for a cheese and wine tasting in the middle of the harbour. Enjoy a picnic on secluded Shark, Clark and Rodd Islands or go camping on Cockatoo. The islands also host a range of events from music festivals to gala dinners and art exhibitions.
