Day 6

The Greater Blue Mountains Drive links the national parks and conservation areas that stretch across the Upper Hunter, Mudgee, Goulburn, Southern Highlands and Hawkesbury regions. Take the Discovery Trail that leads through Hawkesbury River country. Stock up at the roadside stalls selling fresh local fruit and vegetables for a picnic by the riverside in Cattai National Park.

 

Day 7

The Great North Discovery Trail leads to the Hunter Valley which radiates out from the rainforest and subalpine hub of the Barrington Tops National Park, the southern extreme of the Gondwana Rainforests World Heritage Area. You can drive right up to the Finchley Aboriginal Area in Yengo National Park with its numerous rock engravings. The Hunter is one of Australia’s premier wine regions and renowned for producing the world’s best Semillon wine. Drop into the Vintage Hunter Wine and Visitors Centre at Pokolbin to plan which of the 140 wineries you want to visit before you head back to Sydney.
