Cradle Mountain Huts Overland Track, Cradle Mountain, TAS
Winter in Australia is unique. While the sun shines on beaches in the north, it’s snow time down south. New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania are full of activities and adventures while snow is in abundance. It’s the perfect time to slide down the slopes, take a walk through the pristine wilderness and revel in the festivities that only a snowy winter brings.
The snow season has officially started at ski resorts across New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania. If you’re keen to hit the slopes in New South Wales, be sure to check out Thredbo, Perisher, Jindabyne, Alpine Way, Charlotte Pass, Mt Selwyn as well as Canberra.
In Victoria, head to Mt Buller, Mt Stirling, Mt Hotham, Falls Creek, Lake Mountain, Mt Baw Baw and Dinner Plain. Further south in Tasmania are the ski areas of Ben Lomond and Mt Mawson. All resorts offer a range of accommodation options including, self-contained apartments, hotels, lodges and bed and breakfast properties.
Although all Australian ski fields have plenty to offer beginner skiers through to those more advanced, there is also a lot more to do without having to strap into skis and snowboards.
Spot the wildlife
Winter is a great chance to spot some of Australia’s native wildlife as they roam the land even in these cooler conditions. Visitors can spot kangaroos jumping through the snow in Kosciuszko, New South Wales and wombats frolicking around Cradle Mountain in Tasmania.
