The sparkling creek of Tallebudgera

Tallebudgera Creek

1544 Gold Coast Highway, Palm Beach, Queensland, 4221
Website: www.gcparks.com.au/park-details.aspx?park=1610

Ancient Aborigines used to call this Gold Coast suburb "good fish" and you'll hear no argument from us on this apt name. For Tallebudgera is best known for its sparkling creek which is framed by the Burleigh Heads National Park on one side and Palm Beach on the other. This is the focal point for any visit to Tallebudgera where the lifestyle is all about camping, swimming, picnicking, kayaking and a spot of fishing or two. So popular is the campground here, that generations of families return each summer to claim their favourite spot at the Tallebudgera Creek Tourist Park which is perched on the edge of this estuary. For those looking for a little luxury there's also two and three bedroom waterfront villas, or basic lodgings for those on a budget. While the waters in the creek are renowned for their relative calm, those seeking surf need only walk to nearby Tallebudgera Beach for a few waves. For a true taste of this part of the coast, head to the Tallebudgera Surf Lifesaving Club for a meal at Club Talle. Tally-ho and all that.

Email: heritage@ehp.qld.gov.au
Website: www.ehp.qld.gov.au

In church grounds at Pimpama, halfway between Brisbane and the Gold Coast, stands a stone memorial-a soldier statue, his head bowed, hands crossed and resting on his rifle, a tree trunk supporting him. It is, in fact, a replica of the original which was unveiled in 1919 following a public subscription. The original stood in the cemetery of Pimpama Uniting (previously Methodist) Church, a tribute to the seven local men who had died in WWI. It was produced by AL Petrie and Son of Toowong, the largest masonry firm in Queensland at the time; responsible for many WWI memorials. A series of relocations within the property have occurred, the most recent in 1993, when the replica was commissioned. This facsimile, positioned facing the Pacific Highway, was unveiled on ANZAC Day 1995. The old digger, which was in poor condition, was relocated to Miles Historical Village.
