The World's 50 Best Restaurants 2017

Australia’s vibrant restaurants, creative chefs and fresh produce will be on show when The World’s 50 Best Restaurants awards come to Melbourne in 2017.

The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list provides an annual ranking of the most exciting and talked about restaurants across the world. Carefully judged by an anonymous panel of over 1000 experts, the list brings together the world’s best chefs and restaurateurs who share a passion for truly memorable and unique dining experiences.

As Melbourne prepares to host The World’s 50 Best Restaurants awards ceremony in April 2017, all focus is on Australia as one of the world's greatest food destinations. Australia is fast becoming home to some of the most interesting places to eat, serving an exciting and diverse array of produce and native Indigenous ingredients you won’t find anywhere else. All this matched with sophisticated wines, and a booming boutique spirits and craft beer scene, best enjoyed outdoors under the Australian sun.

Fish and Chips in Australia

Fish and Chips in Australia

Whether your idea of a good meal includes tablecloths and attentive service at a fine dining restaurant, or a take-away package wrapped in newspaper from the local fish and chips shop, the star of the show is the same: Australia’s fresh and flavourful seafood. Our island nation has a well-deserved global reputation for fronting up some of the biggest, juiciest and tastiest seafood on the planet, with hundreds of native species to choose from at any given time of the year. As a result, many restaurants can literally supply the ‘catch of the day’ – fish caught in local waters only hours earlier – much to the delight of local and visiting ‘seafoodies’ alike!
