Over 1,000 events take place during the year, and more than 1,000 restaurants participate in the festival nationwide. The festival attracts over two million guests who get a unique chance to meet Australia's most innovative chefs, taste local Australian produce and enjoy some of the nation's best fine dining experiences that include lip smacking seafood to great vegetarian options. TOP THINGS TO DO

ENJOY A SCRUMPTIOUS BREAKFAST IN BRISBANE
Australians love to go for breakfast or brunch, and most Australian cafés usually have extensive breakfast menus. In Brisbane, many local cafés celebrate the Good Food Month in July, by taking part in the 'Breakfast Club'. There is a customised breakfast menu and a tea or coffee for $20, and besides enjoying the Australian ritual of a hearty breakfast, visitors can sample interesting dishes – every café offers a creative breakfast item, from sweet green-tea waffles to savoury risotto. Tourists can also find great vegetarian options in most cafés!

CELEBRATE THE FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS IN CANBERRA
The most popular event in every city participating in the Good Food Month is usually the free, family-friendly Night Noodle Market, but in Canberra the Night Noodle Markets are even more fun because they coincide with Canberra’s ‘Enlighten’ event.

The capital’s annual festival of lights, just like Diwali, illuminates its most famous buildings as a backdrop to this modern night market, where visitors can taste delicious Asian, hawker-style fare in a festive setting. Families and young couples can try new vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes at Asian food stalls run by some of the city’s most innovative eateries, and be entertained by live music. They can also find many themed bars and chill-out zones to relax and have fun.

MELBOURNE – A PARADISE OF HEAVENLY SWEETS
Sweetfest is a two-day festival that celebrates Melbourne’s top dessert chefs – and it is also an important event on Melbourne's Good Food Month calendar. This delectable ice-cream and dessert-filled festival is held in North Melbourne at a beautiful heritage location. The event attracts locals and travellers eager to see if the chosen chefs can beat last year’s record of making a giant raspberry macaron. Don't miss your chance to learn how to make your own sweets from cake experts and pastry specialists, while you sip wine and take a selfie with your family.

PERTH – CRAZY FOOD INNOVATION NIGHTS
The spirit of Good Food Month brings experimentation and foodie innovation to every city, and when the festival comes to Perth, local chefs get bold and innovative. The city has many top restaurants, and Good Food Month's Hats Off programme holds one-night-only special dinners in eateries with at least one Chef Hat awarded. The ‘chef hat’ is awarded to the best chefs in the country. The awards are similar to the Michelin model of rating which range from zero hats to a maximum of three hats being awarded. Perth’s celebrity chefs use this chance to create brilliant new dishes and then let the visitors taste them!

SYDNEY SPRING PARTY
In Sydney, Good Food Month falls in October. The cool weather is ideal for enjoying the outdoors, and its picnic, the Spring Social, is the most popular event of the locals and tourists alike. Croquet (pronounced cro-kay), a game played in the garden, live piano music and walking the carpet set the mood for this 1920s-style garden party, where some of Sydney’s best chefs get busy on the barbecues and dessert tables. Soak up the Sydney sunshine, gorge on delicious non-vegetarian and vegetarian food and down it with Australia’s famous Pimms cocktail.

DON’T MISS LUNCH AT THE TOP RESTAURANTS

The most-awaited event of Good Food Month throughout the country is the Let’s Do Lunch programme. Some of Australia’s top restaurants offer a pre-decided menu at a reasonable price, allowing you to try some fancy dining on a budget. It’s best to book in advance – the more popular the restaurant, the faster its reservations go. Remember to make a request for a vegetarian meal while making a reservation, and the restaurants will be happy to oblige!

HOW TO GET THERE

Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney all have international and domestic airports, with Sydney and Melbourne being major international hubs.
