Chris Hemsworth's Australian Itinerary

Uluru – Darwin – The Kimberley – Cairns – Hayman Island

“Exploring Australia with my family has been the most incredible experience and one I will never forget. The natural beauty of Australia always surprises me. From the Red Centre and Uluru with rich desert landscapes, to the gorges and remote waterholes of the Kimberley, to vibrant islands like Hayman Island where you have crystal clear water and white sand beaches. Australia really does have it all."– Chris Hemsworth

Based on Chris Hemsworth's recent trip to Australia, we've curated a luxury nine day itinerary that will take you from the spiritually imbued red sands of the outback, through swathes of wilderness and rugged mountains to serene white beaches and tropical waters.  With luxury accommodation, specialist tours and the best scenic offerings Australia has to offer, this guide lets you experience the heart of Australia.

DAY ONE

Morning

To start your holiday, fly to the spiritual heart of Australia, the Red Centre. There are two options to get there: take one of the daily flights to Alice Springs that operate from Sydney, Melbourne and Cairns, then transfer at Alice Springs for your flight to Uluru; or fly direct to Ayers Rock Airport at Uluru, depending on your origin. Find the best option for you.

Once you land, travel to your hotel, Sails in the Desert – Ayers Rock Resort for check-in.

Afternoon

Begin your first day in the outback by travelling to the base of Uluru for an up close perspective. Uluru touring is provided by SEIT Outback Australia. You'll witness the beautiful Mutitjulu Waterhole and view Aboriginal rock paintings and learn about the rich cultural and spiritual indigenous history of the area. In the late afternoon you will travel to the sunset viewing area to witness the sun set over Uluru with appetisers and sunset drinks. After witnessing the sunset, depart for Field of Light. Set in the heart of the Northern Territory, more than 50,000 solar-powered stems crowned with glass spheres light up at sunset and glow throughout the night.

Return to Sails in in the Desert, for your dinner at Tali Wiru. Tali Wiru offers a table d'hôte four-course dinner, matched with premium Australian wines. The menu includes kangaroo rillettes, Darling Downs wagyu fillet, glacier 51' toothfish and twice baked Heidi Farm gruyere soufflé.

DAY TWO

Morning

An early start this morning for a sunrise viewing of Uluru with SEIT Outback Australia - during the winter months, dress warmly (with layers). You'll be picked up from your hotel and travel to the sunrise viewing area, Talinguru Nyakunytjaku, to watch the first sunlight of the day creep across the desert plains and light up Uluru. Your guide will tell you the songlines or children’s stories handed down by generations of the Anangu elders.

After watching the sunrise, your tour will return you to Ayers Rock Resort.

Afternoon

Take a transfer from your hotel to Uluru airport where you'll fly from Uluru to Darwin (via Alice Springs), flight time 3 hours, 30 mins.

Travel to your accommodation, SKYCITY Darwin which is set just off Mindil Beach. Much of Darwin's action happens along its revitalised waterfront, which is lined with restaurants, shops, sandy lagoons and parklands.

Peruse the Mindil Beach Sunset Market, open between May and October, in time to see the flamingo sunset over the Timor Sea. Sit down to a plate of fresh Asian food beneath the palm trees, then check out the vibrant bars, pubs and live music venues along Mitchell Street. If you want something a little more low-key, have dinner at Evoo Restaurant in your hotel.

DAY THREE

Morning

Enjoy a lazy breakfast looking over the swaying sailboats of Cullen Bay Marina, then travel to Darwin airport to board your one hour flight to Kununurra. You'll be staying at the Berkeley River Lodge.

Berkeley River Lodge sits on an exclusive, privately owned property, so you will need to book a Scenic Air Transfer which depart from Kununurra or Darwin daily.

Afternoon

The afternoon is set aside for an exclusive helicopter adventure to introduce you to the Kimberley region. The journey will take you to the coast before heading inland across some true Kimberley country, including the King George Falls. Keep an eye out for turtles and crocodiles; you may even encounter an elusive dugong. Lastly, you will land by a picturesque waterhole for a late afternoon swim.

DAY FOUR

Start your day with breakfast in Dunes Restaurant at Berkeley River Lodge before embarking on a full day river cruise.

The Berkeley River is incredibly scenic, bordered by rock escarpments and filled with secret waterholes, the river is home to an array of wildlife like saltwater crocodiles and wallabies, and an abundance of birdlife.

You will have the opportunity to disembark and hike to the headwater, a walk that takes about 30 minutes, before going to a secluded location for lunch, served on board the boat.

After lunch you will get to explore the Casuarina Falls on foot, or fish from the decks of the boat.  The cruise will have you back at the lodge in time for dinner.

DAY FIVE

Morning

After enjoying breakfast at the lodge, depart by scenic transfer for Darwin airport. From here, take your flight to Cairns (2 hours, 25 mins).

Transfer to your accommodation, Shangri-La Hotel at the Marina. Before you head out for your afternoon, spend some time by the hotel pool and enjoy a cocktail from the poolside bar.

Afternoon

Ease into tropical holiday mode with a stroll along the oceanfront Cairns Esplanade, the city’s social and recreational hub. Cool off in the huge saltwater lagoon or take a walk through the Cairns Botanic Gardens and enjoy a lazy afternoon on the rainforest-fringed Mission Beach

DAY SIX

Morning

Stop for an alfresco breakfast at one of the cafés along the esplanade before heading to the airport for your 1 hour 10 minute flight to Hamilton Island.

Take a helicopter or seaplane transfer to your accommodation at One&Only Hayman Island. Nestled close to the northernmost point of Australia's Whitsunday archipelago and in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef, One&Only Hayman Island has a reputation as one of Australia’s best luxury and leisure destinations.

Afternoon

Enjoy a late lunch at Aquazure, located on the beach with breathtaking views of the Coral Sea.

Spend the afternoon at leisure exploring One&Only Hayman Island where you can relax by the pool with a cocktail in hand and even embark on a sunset sail of the Whitsunday Islands.  With palm-fringed white sand beaches surrounded by clear blue waters, the Whitsunday Islands are the epitomé of a tropical paradise.

DAY SEVEN

Morning

Today you'll be spending the morning under water for a half-day dive and snorkel tour. You'll experience the beautiful fringing coral reefs of the Whitsundays and encounter some of the best diving in the world; get up close and personal with giant maori wrasse, schools of small barracuda and amazing coral formations. The boat will be moored for two hours during which you can dive, snorkel, swim, or simply relax.

Afternoon

Enjoy a beautiful Whitsundays sunset with a Resort Lookout hike. This lookout is the second highest point on the island and drops off to sheer cliff faces, with a stunning, panoramic view of the main resort area, marina village and surrounding islands. Take the hike before dusk, just as wallabies and flying foxes are waking up, so you'll get to see them as they emerge to forage for food.

DAY EIGHT

Today you'll experience the Great Barrier Reef with a visit to some of its most secluded and precious areas on an unforgettable day trip.

At the less-visited Bait Reef, snorkel or dive the clear waters to see coral and a diverse range of marine life including colourful reef fish, huge groupers, turtles and manta rays. Other dive sites include Stepping Stones, Paradise Lagoon and Manta Ray Drop Off.

With all equipment provided, you will have plenty of opportunities to snorkel, dive or swim.

DAY NINE

Spend your last morning relaxed and rejuvenated at the One&Only spa. Nestled within lush tropical rainforest, you can indulge in aromatic massage in the spa cabana beneath the rainforest canopy, or bespoke facials with Desert Fig Seed Oil and Moroccan Chamomile.

After your morning of pure indulgence, take the helicopter or seaplane transfer back to Cairns airport.
