Wine and dine in Victoria

Explore Victoria’s wineries, restaurants and patisseries through the eyes of four of the world’s most influential foodies.

From hip laneway eat streets to boutique wine regions and produce laden coastal areas, it’s no wonder Melbourne and Victoria are world-famous for food and wine. The pure quality and diversity of experience, and the passion and innovation of its chefs and producers make the state a mecca for foodies.

Chinese actor Jia Yi Zhang, Italian reporter Bruno Gambacorta, Indonesian journalist Petty Fatimah and Indian executive chef Manish Mehrotra, had the opportunity to explore this delicious region as part of their Restaurant Australia journey.

Jia Yi Zhang started his Victorian gourmet adventure in the picturesque Yarra Valley at Domaine Chandon Winery. The actor sampled a selection of their sparkling wines including their ‘famous Australian sparkling shiraz’.

While nearby Bruno Gambacorta visited the Oakridge Winery for a delicious lunch of seasonal produce at their restaurant and a wine tasting.

In Melbourne Petty Fatimah explored the sweeter side of the city on Queenie’s Food Tours Sweet Dreams Walking Tour. She visited Gânache Chocolate and tried their Melbourne Honey praline made with honey from their rooftop beehive in South Yarra.

Meanwhile Manish Mehrotra had the opportunity to visit Queen Victoria Markets with Tonka Restaurant’s executive chef Adam D’Sylva and see first-hand the delicious fresh Australian produce that is available. He later went back to Tonka Restaurant to sample a delicious dish made by Adam.

Explore Australia’s food and wine to help you create your own gourmet adventure in Melbourne, Victoria.

Yarra Valley

The Yarra Valley is home to more than 80 wineries, ranging from small, family-owned operations to large estates. The region is renowned for producing Australia's finest pinot noir and sparkling wine, along with a range of other cool-climate wines. It was Victoria's first planted wine region back in 1838. The region is known for its fresh produce including freshwater salmon, trout and caviar, organically grown fruit and vegetables and handmade cheeses and preserves. Follow one of the many self-drive wine trails and fill your picnic hamper on the Yarra Valley Food Trail or at the many huge, fresh food markets.
