The Ultimo Hotel is aimed squarely at starry-eyed travellers looking for a more personalised experience.

It’s written in the stars: the hottest new place to stay in Sydney is The Ultimo Hotel. Located in Haymarket near to the city’s CBD, it’s billed as the world’s first astrology hotel, curating guest itineraries that are informed by individual star signs and designed to transcend the everyday.

DESIGNED WITH THE HELP OF ASTROLOGER DAMIAN ROCKS

Astrologer Damian Rocks, founder of the Stars Like You website, is very excited about his collaboration with 8Hotels.

“We want to tap into that desire from travellers who want to have a personal experience,” he says. “We don’t want travelling to be pedestrian. We want to take it out of the everyday and look at the experience of staying in a hotel from a different angle.”

Rocks has been working with the team at the newly refurbished Ultimo Hotel for the past six months to develop bespoke itineraries inspired by the 12 zodiac signs. He says the idea is in response to a rising demand from travellers for more personalised, engaging experiences. “The reason why astrology is so compelling is because it reminds us there are bigger patterns out there,” he explains.

General manager Scott Hartley says the refurbished heritage-listed hotel offers a number of Astro packages designed to help guests feel aligned to their astrological sign. Guests at the boutique venue, which features 95 contemporary rooms, will also have access to Astrolo teas specially selected to match their star sign, and an astrology library in the lobby.

“We have Gastrology – places to eat and drink – and Experiology – things to see and do – itineraries for all 12 zodiac signs as well as daily horoscopes, slippers in matching zodiac designs and access to monthly horoscopes,” he says, adding that staying in a ‘one-of-a-kind’ astrology hotel helps guests feel more connected to the places they visit.

“We are in such a vibrant area of Sydney and we want to make sure our guests walk away saying, ‘That was amazing!’” he says. “The personal touches we provide as part of the astrology packages mean our guests are able to connect with us and walk away with an experience and that’s pretty powerful.

“When a guest says, ‘What should I see and do while I’m in Sydney?’ we want to steer them away from obvious attractions. We want to say, ‘You’re an Aries. You like to be active so go to Rose Bay Aquatic Hire and get a stand-up paddleboard for the day and see the harbour that way.’”

The hotel offers a number of Astro packages: the Star Charts packages (from $229 per person and $265 for two people), which includes accommodation, a personalised star chart on arrival, moon calendar and slippers and the Off the Charts package (from $329 per person and $469 for two people) which includes accommodation for up to two people with a one-hour face-to-face astrology reading, moon calendar and slippers. As an opening offer, the hotel is offering guests a 20 per cent discount off its Astrology packages during February and March.
