City tour highlights include a photo stop at St Patrick's Cathedral, a visit to Fitzroy Gardens, a delightful guided walking tour and a visit to the Queen Victoria Markets (or the Royal Botanic Gardens on Monday and Wednesday). You will have free time for lunch (own expense) before joining the second part of your tour to witness the nightly ritual of the Penguin Parade at Phillip Island.
Day 3: Lanes and Arcades, Colonial Tramcar Dinner
Join this indulgent morning walk through Melbourne's beautiful back streets, and get orientated in the life of the city that locals love. Discover local designers and specialty retailers that often are only found in the city. Dining in Melbourne can be a fabulous experience, especially aboard the fleet of historical trams that have become The Colonial Tramcar Restaurant. Diners can enjoy fine cuisine and drink the very best of Australian wines or make a selection from the fully stocked bar.
Day 4: Day at Leisure
Enjoy a day at leisure to relax and explore Melbourne.
Day 5: Great Ocean Road
Get ready for an exciting day of visual wonderment and one of the best coastal drives you will ever experience. Enjoy spectacular coastal views of long sandy beaches, rolling surf, precipitous coastal cliffs and river inlets. Travel through popular resort towns Anglesea, Lorne, Wye River and Port Campbell. Stop at picturesque Apollo Bay for lunch (own expense) and see the Otway National Park. Stops include the Twelve Apostles boardwalk, Loch Ard Gorge and Island Arch. A refreshment stop is made at Port Campbell (own expense) before heading inland back to Melbourne.
Day 6: Melbourne to Darwin
You will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Darwin (flight not included). On arrival you will be transferred to your Darwin accommodation.
Day 7: Darwin City Sightseeing
You'll get the perfect introduction to Darwin's history and landscape with visits to the Chinese Temple and a stroll through the Botanic Gardens. Enjoy a tour of the historic sites of the city including the East Point Military Precinct, Mooring Basin and the Stokes Hill Wharf area. You'll gain insights into Australia's WWII history and the bombing of Darwin. There is also time to explore the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory which showcases collections encompassing Aboriginal art and Northern Territory history.
Day 8: Darwin to Kakadu
Cruise the Adelaide River, home to 1,600 crocodiles. See these prehistoric creatures upclose as your guide entices the crocodiles to leap out of the water. Then you'll travel into Kakadu National Park. The combination of mangrove fringed coastal areas, expansive flood plains, lowland hills, and open woodland and forest habitats, make Kakadu one of the most diverse landscapes you'll ever experience. Enjoy lunch before a stop at the Bowali Visitor Centre. Continue to Ubirr, where you'll climb up through the ancient Aboriginal rock art galleries, to the lookout for a spectacular view over the wetlands.
Day 9: Kakadu to Katherine
You'll be mesmerized as you wander around the Nourlangie Rock art site. It has provided shelter to indigenous people for thousands of years, and while taking shelter, the rock evolved into a canvas that illustrates the traditional owners deep spiritual culture. Visit the Warradjan Cultural Centre where you will be introduced to their way of life. Later, join your guide for a cruise on Yellow Water Billabong, Kakadu's most famous wetland. The picturesque yellow waters are home to thousands of saltwater crocodiles and up to 60 species of colourful birdlife. This afternoon travel to Katherine.
Day 10: Katherine to Darwin
Enjoy a cruise through Katherine Gorge, a stunning network of thirteen gorges carved from billion year old sandstone. You'll see freshwater crocodiles, birdlife and some amazing scenery. Proceed to the Nitmiluk Visitor Centre for breakfast. Next stop is Leliyn (Edith Falls). The paperbark and pandanus fringed natural pool at the base of the falls is suitable for swimming throughout most of the year. Return to Darwin via Pine Creek, an historic gold mining town and stop at the Adelaide River War Cemetery, the resting place for many killed in World War II.
Day 11: Depart Darwin
