Australian Capital Territory

Canberra Craft Beer & Cider Festival
March, Canberra

Held annually since 2008 at Mecure Canberra, Canberra Craft Beer & Cider Festival invites some of the best breweries in Australia to exhibit over 80 beers and ciders. Sample the product on display and take the opportunity to meet the brewers behind the labels, all the while learning how to match beer with food. Put your learning to great use by pairing your brew with food from one of the local gourmet stands that are available and kick back and listen to the live music.

New South Wales

Bitter & Twisted International Boutique Beer Festival
October, Maitland (103 miles / 166 kilometres north of Sydney)

What is unique about the Bitter & Twisted International Boutique Beer Festival is that it’s held in the former maximum security prison, Maitland Gaol. While there is plenty of live entertainment available during the weekend, take the opportunity of being in this unusual location and take one of the three 45 minute gaol tours on offer.  For those who would rather stick to all things beer, there are over 50 boutique beers available to taste your way through and check out the Home Brew session.

Darwin Beer Can Regatta

A beer festival with a twist, the Darwin Beer Can Regatta’s main event sees teams of four put their boats made out of beer cans to the test on Darwin Harbour. Kids also have the chance to get involved too by participating in the juniors’ race in their soft drink can boats. If racing in a tin can boat isn’t your thing, you can also get involved in portage races, kayak races, sandcastle competitions and iron man events.

Queensland

Queensland Beer Week
July, Statewide

Queensland’s best breweries, pubs, bottle shops and restaurants co-ordinate a week of events as part of Queensland Beer Week. The festival kicks off with the Queensland Homebrew Conference which is followed by a plethora of meet and greets, master classes and tastings at local favourite bars such as The Scratch, which is known for its selection of craft beers. 

South Australia

Craft Beer and Cider Festival
April, Adelaide

Over 20 brewers come together for two days at The Highway for the Craft Beer and Cider Festival. Noticing the demand for craft beers, The Highway has created the festival to provide visitors the opportunity to sample some of the local brews from the likes of the McLaren Vale Beer Company alongside some of the more well-known Australian craft beers, including James Squire. While you’re there, discuss hops with the brewers, learn about how to cook with beer and eat a delicious meal created by the head chef.

Tasmania

Huon Valley Mid-Winter Fest
July, Huon Valley, Hobart

The Huon Valley Mid-Winter Fest celebrates the region’s apple-picking history with a two day festival that includes wassailing, the age old tradition to scare away evil spirits and awaken the trees to promote a good harvest. Get in the spirit and dress up, or simply enjoy the music and dancing, the delicious food in abundance and of course, Willie Smith’s cider.

Tasmania International Beerfest
October, Hobart

With a 150metre waterfront beer garden, the Tasmania International Beerfest not only shows off Hobart’s beautiful harbour but puts the spotlight on local and international craft beer and cider and delicious local Tasmanian food. Take the opportunity to meet the brewers, broaden your palate and appreciation for craft beer, all the while enjoying the entertainment that is on offer.

Victoria

Great Australian Beer Festival
February, Geelong (47 miles / 75 kilometres southwest from Melbourne)

The Great Australian Beer Festival in Geelong has over 150 craft beers and ciders available to taste your way through in their alfresco beer garden. Attend one of the festival seminars to educate yourself across a number of topics including beer appreciation, the craft of beer and food matching and how to make your own craft beer at home. While the beer and cider are the main focus, there are a number of local restaurants that serve up a festival menu that will delight your taste buds and to top it off there is plenty of entertainment to enjoy.

Great Australasian Beer Spectapular
May, Melbourne

While the Great Australasian Beer Spectapular (or GABS for short) has only been around since 2012, the festival has managed to draw in some of the best craft breweries from Australia, New Zealand and internationally. Craft beer fans will be delighted to hear that many of these brewers create new beers specifically for the event giving you the unique opportunity to sample it first. The festival also includes educational seminars, a gourmet food market and Tasting Paddles to help you sample the many brews available.

Good Beer Week
May, Statewide

Beer becomes a hot topic across Victoria for a week in May when the state celebrates Good Beer Week. Held in venues that range from a vintage train to the finest pubs and a three-hatted restaurant in a historic park, the festival has a central hub located at one of the best pubs in Melbourne, The Terminus in Fitzroy North. Take part in a range of exciting and different events that include beer paired with whisky, Little Creatures Good Beer College, Australian Craft Brewers Conference, master classes, barbecues and, of course, festival favourite The Pint of Origin.

Western Australia

South West Craft Beer Festival
February, Busselton (137 miles / 221 kilometres south from Perth)

Located in Busselton, one of the earliest settlements in Western Australia, the South West Craft Beer Festival brings together some of the region’s best brews for visitors to sample over two days. The festival is very much a celebration of the people from the region, with local produce served up by local restaurants, local brewers and their craft beer and entertainment provided by local musicians.

WA Beer Week
October, Statewide

For one week, events take place across Western Australia in celebration of WA Beer Week. This is your chance to taste craft beers from 25 local, interstate and overseas breweries and participate in master classes, beer degustation and ‘Beer Skool’ with Fremantle beer, Little Creatures.
