More than 80 great stalls make up Adelaide Central Market, one of the largest undercover markets in the Southern Hemisphere which has been serving Adelaide since 1869. Growers from across the state gather here to sell a mouth-watering array of ingredients, from oysters to olive oils to cheeses. You’ll also find some of Adelaide’s most popular cafes and eateries. 

HOW TO GET THERE

Adelaide Central Market is located right in the centre of Adelaide. The City to Bay tram stops on the doorstep or the free City Connector bus has hop-on and hop-off stops located by the market on Grote Street.

Taste fresh baked goods
Pick up just-out-of-the-oven bread rolls, croissants, savoury and sweet muffins and pastries from one of the bakeries such as DoughGourmet To GoThe Bakers TrayThe Market Bread Bar and Wild Loaf, which makes a delicious fig and walnut loaf. Many specialise in preservative-free, organic breads. Providore sells fresh gateaux, tortes, sponge cakes, pies, tarts, pastries, quiches, pâtés and pasta.

Say cheese
Looking for some fine cheese or dips to go with your fresh bread? You’ll be spoilt for choice at Atlas ContinentalCon’s Fine FoodCorner Deli and Lucia’s Fine Foods. At Say Cheese or The Smelly Cheese Shop there is an unrivalled range of locally made and international cheeses. Add to your antipasto platter with Spanish-style ham or prosciutto from Sevenhill Fine Food whose products are handmade according to traditional artisan methods.

Quench your thirst
Tony’s Juice Bar whips up fresh juices and smoothies, while T Bar is the place to go for its enormous range of teas and tea making equipment. Feel like a glass of wine with that avocado and fetta smash? Zuma Caffe can serve you an alcoholic drink with its peerless light meals, many of which are gluten free. The Plantation Juice Co creates healthy smoothies, smoothie bowls, juices and coconut water quenchers.

Have brunch at one of the many cafes
There’s no shortage of places for a quick or leisurely brunch. Asian Gourmet serves a variety of hot and cold Asian dishes, and is famous in Adelaide for its laksa. Big Table specialises in baguettes, wholemeal and flat bread rolls and is known for its good coffee. Jamface Central offers a variety of homemade delights from pastries to jams, relishes, sandwiches and is steered by well-known Australian TV chef Poh LIng Yeow. Several stall holders specialise in produce from South Australian regions. Barossa Fine Foods sources some of the best free-range and sustainably-farmed fresh meats from farmers in the Barossa Valley and regional South Australia. The Mettwurst Shop specialises in South Australian Riverland region smallgoods, which are naturally smoked with no artificial colours or flavours. The Kangaroo Island Stall sells an extensive range of KI's best produce, spirits, wine, health and beauty products from more than 50 producers. The Olive Tree has a huge range of South Australian extra virgin olive oils including its own from McLaren Vale and the Adelaide Hills.
