Now in its second year, Good Food Month grew from the success of the Crave Sydney International Food Festival, which attracted almost a million festivalgoers annually in the month of October. The event was reborn as Good Food Month in 2013, and quickly expanded north to Brisbane and Canberra, and south to Melbourne as new celebrations. In 2014, it added Canberra to its line-up. What to Expect

The signature event of Good Food Month in Sydney and Melbourne is the Night Noodle Markets, held in Hyde Park in Sydney and Alexandria Gardens in Melbourne.

Both locations are transformed into an Asian hawker-style market with food stalls, a selection of bars and nightly entertainment, while top chefs from each of the cities’ best Asian restaurants dish up everything from authentic Thai desserts and freshly made roti to Peking duck pancakes and Shanghai-style soup dumplings.

But there is plenty more on offer than one night of Asian cuisine! Another favourite event on the annual calendar is the Hats Off Dinners. Here, the most awarded chefs in each city set aside their regular menus for one night only and cook a special festival feast.

Much more casual but every bit as delicious is Barbecue Madness, where restaurants bring the kitchen into the street (or laneway, terrace or garden) for a super-sized sausage sizzle.

Other highlight Good Food Month events include Drink & Dine food and wine (and cider, craft beer and champagne) matching events; Instant Expert masterclasses; guided discovery tours by food artisans and experts; and outdoor community festivals.

Must See: Things You Shouldn't Miss

To coincide with Good Food Month, restaurants listed in each city’s Good Food Guide offers special ‘Let's Do Lunch’ menus and a glass of beer or wine throughout the month.

Selected restaurants from the cheaper The Age/Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Under $30 Guide serve up two (or more) affordably priced courses, as part of the Good Dinners Under $30 series of events.

Meanwhile, World Dinners showcase multicultural flavours so you can taste your way around the globe without leaving town.
