The Port Pirie National Trust Museum incorporates: the old Customs House which was opened in 1882 to cater for the increased shipping in the harbour; the Railway Station building completed in 1902, a fine example of Victorian Pavilion style architecture, which served as a railway station until 1967; and the former Central Police Station, built 1892. The buildings are now owned by the National Trust and house exhibitions of local history. Displays include: recreated room settings set at about 1900; Port Pirie's largest industry the Pasminco Smelter, formerly BHAS with details of products made and models; railway and shipping history; narrow gauge shunting engine 'Port Pirie'; and a time-line development of Port Pirie.

Wirrabara Forest in the Southern Flinders Ranges offers walking trails, scenic drives, picnic grounds and more. The Heysen Trail and its various spurs provide access to The Bluff and to the Top Of The Range. The Heysen Trail provides spectacular views of Spencer Gulf. Bushwalker permits for the Wirrabara Forest can be obtained from the Forest Headquarters and there are a number of scenic drives through the forest on public roads. Picnics can be enjoyed in the picnic ground adjacent to the Forest Headquarters. Ippinitchie camping ground is open all year except on days of total fire bans.

After recent extensive excavations it is now possible to take a tour through the Blinman Mine tunnels that were once worked by the Cornish Miners in 1862. You can share some of their experiences on the personalised fully guided tours combining an intimate theatrical presentation using art and sound scapes. Tours run on the hour seven days a week and last for approximately one hour. Tour companies welcome with prior bookings and tour rates.

Enjoy a relaxing stroll through a range of natural and themed gardens including our innovative and award-winning AridSmart Display and our nationally significant Eremophila and Rare Plants collections. Or take one of our longer garden walks that wind through dappled woodlands, fragile red sand dune country and chenopod plain and claypan country. Spy on native birds from one of our bird hides and then enjoy spectacular views of the ancient Flinders Ranges from the historic Matthew Flinders Red Cliff Lookout. Then meander back to our award-winning visitor centre and relax al fresco with a freshly brewed espresso or a glass of wine and some delicious country fare at the Bluebush Cafe. You’ll find us on the north side of Port Augusta on the Stuart Highway, the main road to Darwin.

Nelshaby Capers produce a full range of Caper and Caper related products. The products include a range of four sizes of buds, from Premium, (smallest) to Large with Non Pareil and Surfine filling out the range. The large buds are also available as semi-dried buds. The range also includes a Caper and Olive Tapenade, Caper Berries and Caper Stuffed Kalamata Olives as well as Caper Spice mix and a dark premium chocolate with Caper. Our Quandong trees are now producing and we have a Quandong Paste available as well. An added product is cutting grown plants, cuttings being taken from our four best plants. These are available from October onwards each year and larger orders are taken as grow to order for the next year. We welcome anyone who wants to have a look at our plants during the growing season, from October to April. Just get in touch prior to visit to make sure someone is about to show you the plants. We sell product from the farm gate, as well as a large mail order component of our business.

Coongie Lakes National Park has reopened after being closed due to floodwaters. The floodplains north of Kudriemitchie have finally dried out. Coongie Lakes National Park is one of the most spectacular of South Australia's natural attractions. The park is a pristine water world made up of channels, waterholes, lakes, internal deltas, shallow floodplains and interdune corridors and swamps. This arid wetland plays host to a diversity of wildlife including native birds, fish, reptiles and frogs and transforms into a breeding ground for an enormous number of migratory birds from around the world. Birdwatching, photography, bushwalking and canoeing are popular ways to enjoy the park's wilderness setting. Co-management of the park involves a partnership between the Government of South Australia and traditional owners to share responsibility and decision making for the strategic management of the park. A co-management committee (in accordance with a co-management agreement between the Minister for Sustainability, Environment and Conservation and the traditional owners, Yandruwandha and Yawarrawarrka people) co-manage Coongie Lakes National Park. Port Pirie Regional Art Gallery is located in the Port Pirie Regional Tourism and Arts Centre, adjacent to the silos and wharf area in the City of Port Pirie. The Gallery aims to provide opportunities for regional South Australian artists and to foster the development of a rich cultural life for the communities of Port Pirie and the Southern Flinders Ranges. It also has much to offer the travelling public, providing as it does an insight into the artistic life of the region. The Gallery conducts a diverse program of exhibitions annually, with the emphasis on regional South Australian artists. It also hosts national touring exhibitions from major Australian cultural institutions and develops exhibitions of topical and community interest. Admittance to special exhibitions is by gold coin donation.

The Water Tower Lookout is surrounded by lovely gardens. This tower was built in 1882 to provide a pressure water supply for the residents of Port Augusta West. From the balcony at the top of this tower you can enjoy excellent views of the town, the Spencer Gulf, the Flinders Ranges and the outback.
