The Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach is Australia s longest running and most prestigious professional surfing event. It is Stop 2 of 10 on the ASP Men s World Tour and one of the favourite stops for many pros. The Rip Curl Pro is one of six Victorian Government-designated Hallmark International Sporting Events held in this state each year an honour it shares with the Melbourne Formula 1, Phillip Island Moto GP, Australian Tennis Open, Melbourne Cup and the AFL Grand Final. The Rip Curl Pro will feature the world s top 45 ASP surfers plus two Rip Curl Wildcard competitors and one local Victorian Wildcard decided by the Victoria Place To Be Trials. Reigning ASP World Champion Kelly Slater is also the Rip Curl Pro defending champion after winning his third Bell in Easter 2008. Surfing s greatest pulled off a remarkable last-minute win over Australian Bede Durbidge in the Final and will come into the event as hot favourite this year. In 2010, Melbourne will welcome the 77th UCI Road World Championships. This event is second only to the legendary Tour de France in terms of importance and prestige in international cycling and it will bring the best riders in the world to Australia. The popularity of the Tour de France in Australia and the excitement created by it will flow on to create unprecedented interest in the World Championships. The event will be held over 5 days of competition from 29th September to 3rd October and features Elite Men and Women competitors as well as Under 23 Men s. Over 400 of the world s best cyclists will descend on Melbourne to compete in Time Trial and Road Race events based in Geelong. In addition to the challenging courses set in Geelong for these competitors, for the first time in a World Championship, the Elite Men s Road Race will begin in one city and finish in another with the start of the race in Melbourne, finishing with laps of the tough circuit in Geelong. Dive in with 4000 other swimmers in the world's largest organised swim. Each year thousands of swimmers dive into a sea of history and race the 1.2 kilometre course of the Lorne Pier to Pub, which started as an informal challenge among Lorne Surf Life Saving Club members. It s now an action-packed weekend attracting people from near and far to both participate in the race and soak up the carnival atmosphere. Over the past 29 years the event has grown in size and stature and now claims centre stage of a two day program that includes the Mountain to Surf Fun Run and Surf Boat Race Classic. Since 3071 swimmers took to the water in 1998, the swim has been entered into the Guinness Book of Records as the world s largest open water swim.

Five days of incredible mountain bike racing along the sweet single track and dusty trails of the majestic MacDonnell Ranges in Central Australia. The Anaconda Mountain Bike Enduro captures the spirit of the Red Centre with a series of off road races in the very heart of Australia. Coming together as a festival of mountain biking with seven races over five days, competitors will experience the true majesty of the outback and the mighty MacDonnell Ranges, in and around Alice Springs as part of this unique event. Spectators’ opportunities are the best on the day the riders sprint up Anzac Hill in the centre of town, otherwise bring your bike and join the action anytime. There is no entry cost for spectators.
