From runway shows to red-carpet parties, you can’t beat the glamour of Australia’s biggest fashion weeks. Preview the autumn/winter collections of Australia’s hottest designers at L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival – a week-long carnival of cutting-edge fashion and culture in March. In May, join the fashionistas flocking to Sydney for the spring/summer shows of Rosemount Australian Fashion Week. Book your tickets to a catwalk show, where you can mingle with fabulous style-setters and celebrities. Get up to date on the next seasonal trends and then hit the stores of your favourite Australian designers.
Long known as Australia’s style capital, Melbourne is a thrilling place to be during its annual fashion festival. This is where the who’s who of the Australian fashion scene gathers for a week of spectacular runway events, many of which also have ticketed public seats. Reserve your spot amongst the A-listers at the collection shows of high-profile Australian designers such as Wayne Cooper, Willow, Kirrily Johnston, Lisa Ho, Zimmermann, Sass & Bide and Camilla and Marc. Then check out the exciting, creative work of talented students and emerging designers.
Away from the official catwalks, you’ll find free, funky shows happening on inflatable catwalks across Melbourne’s city centre. During fashion week they literally ‘pop up’ at iconic locations such us Southern Cross Station and Federation Square, showcasing equally iconic Australian brands such as Bonds and Lili. Also running is a diverse cultural program, featuring 65 events from art and photography exhibitions to design installations. Save some time for a shopping expedition along South Yarra’s Chapel Street or the city’s hidden laneways.
In May, get a sneak peek of spring/summer trends at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week, held in Circular Quay, against the stunning backdrop of Sydney Harbour. This is an industry event but you can join the fashion parade with a special VIP package. You’ll have an industry insider welcome, behind-the-scenes tour and access to the VIP bar. Be amongst Australia’s style-setters and celebrities before you claim your reserved seat next to the runaway. Witness the showcase of creations by Australian designers such as Anna & Boy, Kirrily Johnston, Nicola Finetti, Zambesi, Marnie Skillings, Josh Goot and Jayson Brunsdon. You’ll even take away an official goodie bag – the ultimate fashion week accessory.
Don’t despair if you don’t make it to this exclusive event. In August Sydney Fashion week returns again for the public. You’ll get to see the best of the May collections, at the same time they arrive in stores. After the catwalk, take your designer wish list on a trip across Sydney’s shopping precincts, such as Paddington’s Oxford St and the historic Queen Victoria Building in the CBD.
Fashion-lovers shouldn’t miss the designer trail of Australia’s major fashion weeks in Melbourne and Sydney.
