The City's renewal of Paddington Reservoir Gardens on Oxford Street won the prestigious 2009 Australian Award for Urban Design, from a field of 42 nominated projects. Sustainable Sydney 2030 received a commendation. And viewers across Australia saw it being given the seal of approval in a stunning feature on ABC's Art Nation. With its immaculate gardens, boardwalk, lighting and furniture, Paddington Reservoir Gardens offers a relaxing oasis for the community to enjoy in the heart of Paddington. It has been described as a combination of the Baths of Caracalla and The Hanging Gardens of Babylon. The roof-top features a stunning sunken garden; vibrant graffiti art has been preserved in the eastern chamber which provides a new space for community and cultural activities; and special lighting highlights the beautiful new timber work and stunning stone of the reservoir.

Newington Armory is a special place - formerly the Royal Australian Naval Armament Depot (RANAD), it features over 100 heritage buildings of various ages and types, set amidst a 52 hectare riverside landscape of undulating hills and woodlands. The heritage buildings provide the Armory with a unique character, which is described through a heritage interpretation program, that can be viewed at the original 1897 gate house. The Heritage Railway operates on weekends and takes you on a unique behind the scenes tour. Birds Australia Discovery Centre is a great place to learn the secrets of birds on site.

Manly Warringah War Memorial Park, known as Manly Dam, has a wonderful diversity of flora and fauna. It's great for picnics by the water and is renowned for mountain biking and water skiing. Attractions include a self-guided walk that highlights the Dam's Aboriginal history, several bushwalks, and nine bookable picnic areas. Water sports include swimming, fishing, kayaking, and water skiing. The mountain bike track is one of Sydney's best.

Wylie's Baths located at Coogee, were established in 1907 by Henry Alexander Wylie, a champion long distance and under water swimmer. The construction of the Baths coincided with an emerging interest in seaside baths in Sydney at the turn of the century. 'Crosslands Reserve' has been maintained by Hornsby Shire Council since 1921. In 1987 the reserve was incorporated into Berowra Valley Bushland Park, forming 38 square kilometres of bushland, stretching from Pennant Hills to Berowra Waters. Things to do include: Picnicking and barbeques, bushwalking, camping (bookings required), fishing, canoeing, bike riding and nature observation. Facilities at the reserve include: Picnic shelters (larger shelter available for hire - seats 12 adults), free electric barbecues, toilets, parking, children's playground and bicycle track and the Track head for The Great North Walk.
