Floriade, the national capital's annual flagship tourism event, is the largest floral festival in the Southern Hemisphere. Each year in September visitors are invited to celebrate the arrival of spring with a 30-day celebration featuring cooking demonstrations, gardening tips, recreational activities for kids and families, entertainment and horticultural workshops all peppered with some high profile celebrities to add some spice. Set amongst Canberra's Commonwealth Park on the picturesque shores of Lake Burley Griffin, Floriade's four-hectare site is filled with over a million blooms in a variety of themed garden beds designed to fit within an overarching theme each year.

Through the 1950s, 60s and 70s, there were large scale developments of rail infrastructure across Australia. In the hot and dusty inland north, it was a common scene to find Torres Strait Islanders, Australian South Sea Islanders and Aboriginal people working long and hard in the hot sun. Explore their little known stories, including the camp life, the realities of the work, the hardships, the separation from their land, islands and family and the opportunities and challenges of working on the railway. Curated and toured by The Workshops Rail Museum, supported by the Australia Council for the Arts.

Canberra's Anzac Day Dawn Service is one of the nation's most moving ceremonies. Gather with thousands of Australians in the pre-dawn light to commemorate the 99th anniversary of the first military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War. This year, Anzac Day commemorations will begin at 9 pm on the 24 April with images projected onto the Memorial building. Then, at 4.30 am on 25 April, excerpts from letters and diaries will be read. The Dawn Service will commence at 5.30 am and National Ceremony at 10.15 am.
