'Delatite's high country vineyard has produced benchmark cool climate wines for more than 25 years. Victoria's spectacular alpine scenery around Mount Buller is the backdrop, offering snowy peaks in winter, lovely country in summer. Now the cellar door has relocated conveniently into the main street of the township of Mansfield, makes it a welcoming destination. Outstanding Riesling and Gewurztraminer are highlights, but the entire range is worth exploring.' RALPH KYTE-POWELL "The stunning views at Delatite are always matched by the stunning wines crafted by the indomitable Andrew Browning. The Dead Man's Hill Gewurztraminer is consistently one of the best examples of the variety made in Australia and the Riesling is always delicious. The Delatite Shiraz can also make your hair stand on end if you like racy, cool climate reds." Ben Canaider. Increasing vine age (many of the plantings are over 25 years old), the adoption of organic (and partial biodynamic) viticulture seems also to have played a role in providing the red wines with more depth and texture; the white wines are as good as ever. * Matlock township: now a barren ridge and hilltop with little to remind the visitor that the former flourishing gold town had seven hotels, seven stores, two banks and a district population in the thousands in 1866. Access is via Wood's Point Road from Marysville, Abberfeldy. * Wood's Point township: the focal point of the Upper Goulburn River Valley. Gold mining has continued since 1862. Features of interest include the hotel, museum, store, camping areas and Ross' hydro-electric plant. Present day attractions include the historic cottages, chimneys and mining relics scattered throughout the hills. Ciavarella Oxley Estate: a small gem at Oxley in Victoria's King Valley wine region. The Ciavarella family established a vineyard in 1978, initially selling grapes. The step into winemaking was in 1992. Ciavarella Oxley Estate has achieved a reputation as a maker of fine, hand-crafted wines. Their winemaking philosophy is for the vineyard and grapes to express themselves in the bottle, through effort in viticulture, patience and attention to detail in the winemaking. The winery is only one kilometre off the "Snow Road", a scenic route to many attractions and gateway to the King Valley and Milawa Gourmet Region. Wines include: chenin blanc, sauvignon blanc, viognier, chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon, shiraz, durif, Dolcino (a sweet red), Late Harvest Semillon Aucerot, and a range of fortifieds.
