Kimberley & Jeff Great Barrier Reef Walkabout
The highlight of our one week walkabout was a trip to Lady Elliott Island at the Southern tip of the Great Barrier Reef. We took a small plane to Lady Elliot Island. You could see the reefs and we even saw manta rays from the plane. We saw one again when we took a glass bottom boat to our snorkeling site. We saw dolphins and swam with sea turtles! The waters near the shore had more sea cucumbers in one place then I thought was possible! The blue of the ocean looked beautiful next to the white coral beach and the green palms.

We had one of the most unique days ever on our One Week Walkabout. On Morton Island we took to the Sand Hills for some sand Tobogganing. Sand tobogganing is similar to a large amusement ride at a theme park while sand boarding has been described as a cross between surfing and snow boarding. That evening we got to hand feed Dolphins – wow what a great experience.

On our One Week Walkabout we started in Noosa which is on the Sunshine Coast North of Brisbane. We had a great time, kayaking, learning to surf and exploring Noosa by motor-scooter. We also went diving with Sharks at a very cool Oceanarium. They train you to breath underwater with scuba gear, and then escort you into the tank full of sharks! This was an absolutely incredible experience. To stand face-to-face with a 10ft. shark, or a giant stingray, just takes your breath away…

During our One Week Walkabout we headed off to Fraser Island and stayed at the Kingfisher Bay Resort. We took a 4WD tour of the island! hooray! our “vehicle” is an impressive machine… part tour bus and part 4WD monster. our tour guide, Craig, is awesome. great sense of humor while he maneuvers us all over the island. We got to see whales on their migration from 75 mile beach, walk Eli Creeks chilly but crystal waters and check out the Maheno ship wreck. Lake McKenzie was beautiful.
