Australia's Green Cauldron

Immerse yourself in this living cultural landscape

Stand on the rim of an ancient volcano now cloaked in mystical rainforests.

Wander through the mists of time in Australia's Green Cauldron

You can't miss a visit to the lush remnants of what is possibly the Southern Hemisphere's best preserved shield volcano. Stretching from Byron Bay to the Gold Coast and west towards the Great Dividing Range, this vast caldera shelters a huge diversity of rare flora and fauna, subtropical rainforests and a breathtaking rim of mountain ranges.

In and around this ancient volcanic rim, you'll find alternative communities and fishing villages, organic market gardens and wilderness areas, cascading waterfalls and rambling rivers.

Explore Mount Warning – known as Wollumbin to traditional owners the Bundjalung people – on one of the many varied walking tracks. Meet colourful characters at country pubs, farm stalls and craft markets. Then reconnect with your spirit in the primeval magic of an Antarctic beech forest.
