The ultimate boys weekend in Brisbane

With a whopping 261 days of sunshine a year, Brisbane is perfect for a mates weekend away.

By Hey Gents

Brisbane is known for its relaxed, easygoing vibes, with plenty of sporting venues, outdoor activities and a thriving pub and craft beer scene. If you’re travelling to Australia with a few mates, Brisbane makes an excellent place to visit as the city stays warm for longer than most other capital cities all year round.

Riverlife, Kangaroo Point, Queensland

Brisbane is also known as the River City, with the mighty Brisbane River flowing through it. In fact, Brisbane River gave the city its name. So what would be a more exciting way to begin exploring the city than to go for a kayak along the river?

Riverlife offers a range of activities in and along the river. Head down there with your mates around sunset for a night paddle. You don’t need to have any prior experience as the instructors will provide some quick training, a safety briefing and all the equipment you’ll need.

On Friday and Saturday nights, you can finish up your evening activities with a bucket of beers and prawns.

Thornton Street Ferry Terminal

Thornton Street Ferry Terminal is just a few steps away from Riverlife. Situated on the west bank of Kangaroo Point, it’s a nice place to observe Brisbane city life from the other side of the river.

Follow the riverbank for a scenic walk along the leafy parkland and you’ll come across Brisbane Jazz Club. Known as the city’s only dedicated jazz club, Brisbane Jazz Club offers live performances in a relaxed atmosphere with Brisbane city views in the backdrop.

Suncorp Stadium

The bar boasts a selection of over 200 varieties of bottled craft beer and a daily rotation of eight different beer taps. Brewski specialises in American pub staples such as hot chicken wings and hearty burgers, with almost a dozen variations to choose from.

Netherworld, Fortitude Valley, Queensland

Netherworld is a bar and a diner, housed in an 80’s arcade setting. Here you’ll find scores of electronic games to play on nintendo and atari consoles, pinball machines, and classic coin-operated video game machines.

Not dissimilar to other bars, Netherworld’s food menu offers fries, burgers and mixed bowls. But believe it or not, this place is paradise for vegans and vegetarians as all dishes on the menu begin meatless. For those who need to have meat with their meal, all you have to do is order the base dish and add in the dairy or protein options. Throw all of that down with a choice of 24 draft beers they have available on tap.
