The off-kilter suburb of Northbridge is one of the best places to shop for trendy goods in interesting boutique stores.

Northbridge is home to some of the most unique independent shops and boutiques in Perth. Colourful, vibrant and full of personality, they carry everything from clothing by indie designers to traveller’s trinkets. Here is a list of some of the best places to shop in the neighbourhood.

At Northside Books, there’s something for everyone no matter their age. The store features a huge collection of fiction and non-fiction books, spanning the topics of art, philosophy, history and travel as well as graphic novels and biographies. You can also purchase board games, greeting cards and journals here. If you need a break from reading, walk over to the nearby Chicho gelato parlour, for some creamy goodness.

Beans & Bunches

Beans & Bunches is tucked away in William Arcade, offering fresh and seasonal blooms in a relaxed and natural setting. Store owner Stacey is a dedicated and experienced florist who draws inspiration from all beauty found in nature.

When Stacey isn’t handpicking the freshest botanicals for her clients, she can be found preparing centrepieces for corporate events, bespoke bouquets and flower crowns for garden weddings. Beans & Bunches also runs a series of floral workshops and private lessons where you can learn about the principles of floral design and how to make beautiful arrangements.

Co-located with Beans & Bunches is Safari Record Shack, which is run by Stacey’s husband, John and looked after by their border collie, Bobby.

Eillo, Northbridge, Western Australia

Eillo is a bright and airy concept store offering curated homewares, together with really good coffee. In this white minimalist space, you’ll find every on-trend item such as marble clocks, Nordic crockery, stationery and even body scrubs. Eillo also stocks Palm Beach Collection, an amazing Australian brand that offers fragrances, reed diffusers and hand-poured candles inspired by the Australian coast.

Eillo supports Perth-based Micrology Roasters and serves their coffee in sizes from “Tiny” through to “Bloody Big”. So to truly feel at home, grab a cup of coffee and choose from their selection of toasties, muffins and croissants before heading to the courtyard out the back to soak up some sunshine.

For the young at heart, you can bring home one of those good old whoopee cushions.

With its rare finds and contemporary goods, it’s a great store for the collectors. And if you somewhat randomly need a haircut, there is a barber located at the back of the shop.

Ruck Rover Genreal Store

Ruck Rover General Store is full of personality. It's a bright and colourful shop filled mostly with vintage inspired pieces for women. That's not to say that there is nothing for the guys, as the store also stocks interesting socks and graphic tees.

With a penchant for indie clothes, patterns and general cuteness, Ruck Rover proudly supports small labels and independent designers. Here, you can also flick through Australian magazines, and browse greeting cards designed by local artists. Get a feel for what they stock online, but I find skimming through the racks in store, is always more enjoyable.

It's a perfect place to visit when challenged with the prospect of gift giving, as owner Kate is more than happy to help. While the store has a sign saying it’s "a large fancy room filled with crap", it’s far from it and definitely worth a visit.

Beau Est Mien is a boutique store and printmaking studio, frequented by artists and creative types in general. The name translates to “Beautiful is mine”, which is spot on as this bright pastel-coloured store brings together a collection of beautiful products from across the world.

You can find a selection of illustrations created by store founder and artist Magali. If you need help with your choice of artwork, Alina, the lovely store manager and equally talented artist will be more than happy to offer some advice. You can also have one of your photographs turned into art by enrolling yourself in one of their exposure screen printing classes or their travel themed drypoint and etching workshops.
