3 Day Trips from Sydney

3 great day trips from Sydney

If you find yourself with a whole day spare, and you’ve OD’ed for now on bright lights and bustling streets, visit one of these bangin’ destinations. They’re only a few hours drive from Sydney!

By Kezia Lynch from JUCY

It’s pretty hard to tire of Sydney, with its delish dining options, sparkly Opera House and buzzy street vibes. Still, we all enjoy a hit of nature every now and then, and luckily New South Wales is full of day trip destinations that will take the edge off this craving.

There are many to choose from, but we’ve narrowed it down to 3 epic places you could suss out over the weekend. Grab your mates, pack the car with snacks, and hit the road kids.

Barrington Tops

Barrington Tops National Park can be found inland in northern New South Wales, and you know what makes it easy? The fact that it’s only 3.5 hours north from the Sydney JUCY branch where you can pick up your whip.

If you’re already beelining for Byron Bay or the Gold Coast, this is where you want to take your well-earned leg stretch. If you’re not, this makes for a perfect day trip all on its own, if escaping to tranquil nature and chilling out amongst the mountains is your vibe (let’s be honest, it’s everyone’s vibe).

For anyone who gets their jollies from bushwalking, this is where you want to go. It has an elaborate walking track network that caters for all moods - easy and hard, short and long. Pack some snacks and set off to discover gorgeous waterfalls, amazing wildlife and all the fresh air you can handle.

There’s no wifi out here but we promise you’ll connect with nature.

Port Stephens

Port Stephens will make all your country dreams come true, including wholesome meals that go down like a big hug and scenery so tranquil you’ll beat-match to the slow pace. It’s an area north of Newcastle in New South Wales - again, just a 3.5 hour drive north of the JUCY Sydney branch.

You’ll feel like you’re a million miles from civilisation - which is unreal, given it’s so close to the city.

Plonk yourself in a land of stunning beaches, epic mountains, and cute cafes that turn fresh, local produce into sublime comfort food.

You can take a camel ride along the beach, go for a swim or surf, or just soak up the sun while noshing on an epic beach picnic spread.

And, of course, if you’re down to get a little active, don’t miss sandboarding at Stockton Bight Sand Dunes. For low risk adrenaline junkies, this is the [barely] extreme sport that makes for some hilarious videos. Be prepared for socks filled with sand!

Jervis Bay Region

More white sand beaches and clear blue water? SHOCKER… Sometimes Australia is just so predictable.

The Jervis Bay region, 2.5 hours drive south of Sydney, is home to some of Australia’s best-looking beaches - exhibit A: Hyams. Hyams is a tiny seaside town, that doesn’t even have any highrise developments. Bring your Ray Bans because here, you can sun your buns on the whitest sand in the world (according to The Guinness Book of Records), then rinse and repeat in the crystal clear waters.

You’re all but guaranteed to spot dolphins playing around in the waters, and if you make your trip between May and November, do the White Sands Walk to spot female humpback whales and their calves being adorable. It’s the most fun.

Finish off your getaway with a feast and a coffee at the locally loved Hyams Beach Cafe.

JUCY gives travellers the green light to have the time of their lives! With a range of cars and campers to choose from - you pick the destination, we’ll sort the rest.
