The world's fastest racket sport adds another feather to the Gold Coast's elite sporting cap ahead of the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

If you love speed, don’t miss the 2017 Total BWF Sudirman Cup - one of badminton's most prestigious world championships. Staged for the first time in Australia in its 25 year history, the event (expected to be televised to a global audience of more than half a billion people) will draw more than 1500 of the world's top players, hailing from 45 countries. Few people realise badminton is the world’s fastest racket sport, with top players smashing the shuttlecock at speeds of up to 332 kilometres (206 miles) per hour. 

The Gold Coast - home to gorgeous, long white sandy beaches, amazing wildlife and some of the best theme parks in the world, will play host to the prestigious 2017 Total BWF Sudirman Cup. Come to see the best of the best play, and stay for all the fun.

See the main event in person
Held biennially, the 2017 Total Badminton World Federation Sudirman Cup World Mixed Team Championships will be held from 21-28 May in conjunction with the BWF Annual General Meeting. This will be a great first event for the Gold Coast Sport and Leisure Centre and a fantastic preview for the facility as the venue for the GC2018 Badminton tournament.

Be a part of sporting history
For the last 14 championships of the Sudirman Cup, only 3 countries have claimed the title of World Mixed Team champion - China, Korea and Indonesia. China have won the cup a total of 10 times and will be coming to Gold Coast as the defending champion. Don’t miss the exhilarating competition between over 30 nations fighting for the title.
