Ngaran Ngaran Culture Awareness offers an opportunity to discover Gulaga National Park or the Bega Valley region that hold sacred significance for the Yuin Aboriginal people from the New South Wales south coast. Dwayne ‘Naja’ Bannon Harrison, who has nine generations of passed down cultural teachings, invites you to come walk and listen to stories passed down for thousands of generations, led by the land’s traditional custodians. Tours include basic or glamping accommodation, a welcome to Yuin country, a guided walking tour of Gulaga Mountain or a coach sightseeing tour of the Bega Valley. Traditional sacred ceremonies can range from a Whale Dreaming to a traditional healing ceremony, traditional dancing, Indigenous flavoured meals that include the sounds of the Yidaki (Didgeridoo) and a traditional yarning circle where you share your experience, insights, knowledge, and Dreamtime stories for the duration of the experience.

Experience the sacred values and time-honoured ancestral knowledge of the Jirrbal Rainforest Aboriginal people on a walking or kayaking tour through awe-inspiring rainforest in the World Heritage Listed Wet Tropics of Far North Queensland. Elder, Ernie Grant and his family offer a five-hour walk through the pristine rainforest following along crystal clear creeks to the beautiful Echo Creek Falls. The kayak tour is a great way to experience the Cassowary Coast Region as you paddle your way down the beautifully created creek tunnels. Jirrbal guides offer interpretative information on the flora and fauna giving an understanding of how the rainforest sustains life.

Walkabout Cultural Adventures

Visit the Daintree Rainforest to enjoy the lush scenery and abundant wildlife, try your hand at throwing spears and enjoy a taste of bush tucker. Owner and guide, Juan Walker is a young Kuku Yalanji man from the Daintree Mossman area. He will take you to the secret spots others don’t get to see, and share his local bush knowledge and Aboriginal history. He will give you a wonderful insight into the marine life along the spectacular coastline of the Port Douglas area and show you the waterfalls and hidden swimming spots inside the rainforest. By keeping groups small, all participants enjoy a personalised experience. Juan can also tailor longer trips to suit specific interests.

Intrepid Travel- Journey into East Arnhem Land

In the farthest reaches of remote Northern Australia lies Arnhem Land. This vast and rugged wilderness is where the Yolngu people have lived for millennia. On this seven-day adventure discover this beautiful stretch of traditional land and learn about the Dhuwa and Yirritja way of life that will challenge many of us that live in western society. Experience two days of cultural activities with the Nyinyikay traditional Yolngu owners including making spears and Yidaki (Didgeridoos) for men or collecting materials and dyes for basket making. There will also be an opportunity to witness the hunting and gathering methods or, if you’re more interested in the traditional arts, your hosts also teach some traditional dances as well as bark painting, jewellery making and basket weaving. Then depart the mainland for nearby Bremer Island and feel like castaways marooned on this spectacular oasis devoid of human development and interference. Back on the mainland visit Yirrkala’s world famous Buku-Larrnggay Mulka Art Centre.

Oongkalkada Wilderness camp

The Kimberley is one of the world’s last great wilderness areas and is home to abundant wildlife. Remote and rugged, its landscape is spectacular with wide horizons, ancient gorges, rock art, crystal clear rock pools and pristine beaches. Oongkalkada Wilderness Camp is a great base from which to explore this incredible region and is an eco-bush retreat located at Udialla Springs, a 3000 acre Nyikina-Mangala property fronting the Fitzroy River. Fresh mineral springs surround the camp and are home to an amazing array of flora and fauna. Guests share this rare country with its traditional owners and enjoy day and extended tours from the camp.

The camp has 6 eco-tents with king beds or king split twin share and also includes a campground, campfire BBQs, ablution facilities with male and female toilets and showers, a conference building, a shady outdoor dining area with a menu that includes local produce and bush foods and beautiful clear spring waters that guests can drink and bathe in.
