Welcome to Festival 2018 – 12 fabulous days of diverse entertainment held in conjunction with the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games from 4 to 15 April.
The Festival 2018 program features more than 1000 holiday-highlight experiences across the genres of music, theatre, circus, dance, ideas, visual arts and film, including 35 world premieres and 15 Australian premieres.
Here's seven unmissable events and performances to catch on the Gold Coast in between the sporting events.

Museum of the Moon
Where: Chinatown Mall, Southport
When: 4 to 15 April, 10am – 10pm
After mesmerising millions of people across the globe, this glorious silvery moon journeys to Australia for the first time. Museum of the Moon is an incredible seven-metre-wide, floating moon sculpture with detailed NASA imagery on its surface. Each centimetre of the replica equals five kilometres (three miles) of the lunar surface.
Intertwined
Where: Kurrawa Park, Broadbeach, Gold Coast
When: 14 – 15 April
Join in on the celebrations of diversity and multiculturalism that has thrived in the Gold Coast community. There will be a range of art, song and fashion events that explores stories of identity and the cultural connections of the people who share this land.
Queensland Music Stage
Where: Surf Parade, Broadbeach, Gold Coast
When: 4 to 15 April
The Queensland Music Stage at Surf Parade, Broadbeach will showcase Queenland’s best and emerging musical talents to a diverse global and local audience, hand-picked by Bleach* Festival, to celebrate the richness and diversity of local talent hailing from our shores.
Wednesday 11 April will feature 8-piece local legends Hanlon Brothers supporting ukulele strummer and drummer Bobby Alu. Don’t miss a Mau Power in an explosive hip hop performance fused with traditional Torres Strait Islander dance on Monday 9 April; or the Bass crunching, rhythm pounding smash-up of dub, dancehall and reggae from Dubmarine on Sunday 15 April.
NightQuarter Festival
Where: Helensvale
When: 5 to 14 April, 12 noon – 9pm
Enjoy slow-cooked barbecue, freshly shucked oysters, fish straight off the trawlers, vegan falafels, coldpressed juices, buddah bowls, brews, wines, cheeses and much more. Join in on and be inspired by the daily food workshops and demonstrations while enjoying music, dance and theatre.
The Whale's Tale
Where: Kurrawi Park
When: 9 to 11 April, 12pm – 3pm
Ever wonder what it’s like to be swallowed whole? You’re about to find out! Put on your shrimp helmet, take a deep breath, and dive inside the jaws of Manilayo the humpback whale. You can watch from the shore, or submerge yourself in this thrilling show that’s full of surprises. Catch an abundance of family activities throughout the Festival at Kurrawa Park, Broadbeach, is the perfect hub to let the imagination run wild.
The Spirit of Churaki
Where: Main Stage, Surfers Paradise Beach
When: 12 April, 7pm – 11pm
Discover the story of Aboriginal man Churaki, the Gold Coast’s first surf lifesaver, in an epic production starring Brian Ritchie (Violent Femmes), Kyle Slabb, Fred Leone and Leah Flanagan alongside an extraordinary lineup of legendary Australian musicians. In 1911 Churaki performed the Gold Coast’s first documented lifesaving act and many others, as the surf bathing craze took hold.
Urchins
Where: Appel Park, Surfers Paradise
WheNn: 4 to 15 April, 10am – 10pm
Discover and delight in the spectacular sea urchins intricately crafted from hand-crocheted lace that hover in Appel Park and float over the Gold Coast waterway. The Urchins, created by internationally awarded architects, Choi+Shine Architects, is symbolic of the Gold Coast’s spirit and land.
