Fuelled by Australia’s passionate food culture, Good Food Month is a travelling food festival that runs throughout the year in several Australian cities for a month at a time. More than 1,000 events take place over the course of each year, and more than 1,000 restaurants take part in the festival nationwide. The two million guests can meet Australia's most innovative chefs and food producers, try regional Australian produce and enjoy some of the nation's best fine dining experiences, usually at lower prices. If you happen to be visiting a city when Good Food Month is in town, book tickets to one of the many events.

Things to do
Start the day right in Brisbane
Australians love to go to breakfast or brunch, and most Australian cafés take their breakfast menus seriously. In Brisbane in July, when Good Food Month comes to town, many local cafés celebrate by taking part in the 'Breakfast Club', with a customised breakfast menu and a tea or coffee for AUD$20. Aside from experiencing a great Australian ritual, you may find yourself sampling some inventive culinary creations - every café offers surprising takes on the morning meal, whether it be green-tea waffles or a savoury breakfast risotto.
Festival of Lights in Canberra
In every city taking part in Good Food Month, the free, family-friendly Night Noodle Markets are a favourite, but in Canberra they take on special colour, as they coincide with Canberra’s Enlighten event. The capital’s annual festival of lights illuminates its most famous buildings as a backdrop to this modern night market, which serves up Asian, hawker-style fare in a festive atmosphere. Try new dishes at stalls based around Asian cuisine and run by some of the city’s most innovative eateries as you’re entertained by live local music acts, with themed bars and chill-out zones also a feature.
Melbourne sweet treats
Sweetfest is a two-day celebration displaying the talent of some of Melbourne’s top dessert chefs – and it is also a key event on Melbourne's Good Food Month calendar. This heavenly ice-cream and dessert-filled festival is held in North Melbourne's Meat Market, a beautiful heritage location named after its past incarnation. The event attracts locals and travellers eager to see if the featured chefs can outdo the giant raspberry macarons or famous caramelised bacon ice-cream sandwich of years past. Learn how to make your own sweet treats from cake experts and pastry specialists, or sip sparkling wine and sample (and Instagram) it all.
Perth food innovation
The spirit of Good Food Month in every city is experimentation and foodie innovation, and when the festival comes to Perth, local chefs get a little more daring. The city has many top restaurants, and Good Food Month's Hats Off program holds one-night-only dinners in eateries with at least one Chef’s Hat awarded. Perth’s celebrity chefs use this chance to devise brilliant new dishes either by themselves or as a combined dream team, then let you taste the results.
Sydney spring party
In Sydney, Good Food Month falls in October, as spring comes into full bloom, and its picnic event, the Spring Social, is always a highlight of the social calendar. Croquet, live piano music and walking the white social carpet set the mood for this 1920s-style garden party, where some of Sydney’s best chefs get busy on the barbecues and dessert tables. Soak up the Sydney sunshine with a Pimms cocktail.
Perhaps the most widely enjoyed part of Good Food Month throughout the country is its Let’s Do Lunch program. Some of Australia’s best restaurants offer a set menu at an accessible price, allowing you to try some big-name dining on a budget. Bookings are advised – the more popular the restaurant, the faster its reservations go.
