Orange Food and wine in the countryside

Take part in F.O.O.D Week

Find out why the annual F.O.O.D Week is regional Australia's longest-running food festival. Orange is nestled in the shadow of extinct volcano Mount Canobolas, and the region has enriched soil for growing top quality produce. The event showcases the high quality food, such as stone fruits, olives and meats, that the local area has to offer. Be part of the growing slow food movement with the 100 Mile Dinner, a large communal feast using wine and produce sourced within a 100-mile (160-kilometre) radius of the town. Held every April, the festival highlights local produce, chefs, restaurants and providores.

Visit the vineyards

Orange's biggest drawcard is the many vineyards and wineries dotted across its countryside. Head to wineries such as Philip Shaw, Nashdale Lane and De Salis Wines to try cool-climate chardonnay, pinot noir and more. If you'd like to taste top drops from several wineries at once, head to Ferment, which acts as the cellar door for a range of Orange wineries. After you've indulged in a tasting or two, fill your belly at one of Orange's many top-notch eateries like Racine Restaurant and the award-winning Lolli Redini.

Savour world-class wine

The annual Orange Wine Festival (held in October) showcases the region's world-renowned cool climate wines over two weeks, supported by a number of vineyards that have won international prizes. The festival features 90 events, including Wine in the Vines (frequently sold out), in which you are introduced to local vintners and vignerons and taken through the winemaking process. You can also participate in wine masterclasses, in which you’ll learn how to taste and judge wines from local winemakers, and the Wine & Food Night markets, which hosts more than 60 stalls offering fine cuisines and creations from the local region.

Glamp under the stars

Set in the heart of New South Wales, Orange is the perfect place to unwind. At Nashdale Lane, you can 'glamp' under the stars in luxury tents complete with hardwood floors, a four-poster bed and a cosy wood fire. Enjoy a glass of wine as you stare up at the night sky, and in the morning, try and spot nearby wildlife including kangaroos and king parrots. Surrounded by rows of vines, this is the perfect quiet escape.
