Visit the Australian War Memorial, admire the world’s largest collection of Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art at the National Gallery of Australia, or take a tour of Parliament House to see modern politics in action. Once you’ve had your culture fix it’s time to eat and drink your way through its vibrant neighbourhoods, trek through the surrounding national parks or spend some time kayaking, cycling, sailing or hot air ballooning at Lake Burley Griffin.
When to visit
Canberra is at its most vibrant in the shoulder seasons (spring and autumn) with exciting festivals, colourful natural landscapes and ideal weather. Winter is a great time to cosy up with a glass of wine in one of the many cellar doors of the surrounding wine regions, go hunting for prized black truffles, or head to the Australian Alps to experience ski season in Australia. In summer, you’ll find everyone soaking up the sun on the white sand beaches of Jervis Bay, just under a three-hour drive from the city.

How to get there
Flights from Singapore to Canberra are available daily with Singapore Airlines, while Qatar Airways offers daily flights from Doha. There are also frequent domestic flights from major Australian capital cities. Canberra is a three-hour drive from Sydney and an eight-hour drive from Melbourne. There are plenty of scenic routes if you like to get off the beaten track and visit one of the many country towns along the way.
