The Old Mill - 1835 South Perth

Mill Point Road, PERTH,
Perth, Western Australia 6151

The Old Mill, also known as Shenton's Mill, is one of Perth's most distinctive historic landmarks. Built in 1835 to grind flour, the mill played an important role in the survival of the Swan River colony. Perth's first flour mill contains many historic pieces and relics of the early pioneer days. The mill is a stone structure, which has been plastered and limewashed. The simple clear lines of the mill make it a picturesque early colonial building. The thick stone walls give it the character of a fortress. Built by William Shenton it is located in South Perth, on the Swan River, the main transport channel for the settlers. Milling ceased in 1859 and the buildings were used for a variety of purposes including an early picnic site, a residence, a wine saloon and a poultry farm. To protect the site the government declared it a recreation reserve in 1932. In 1957 it was leased to a private company for restoration and as a repository for historic items. The Old Mill passed the National Trust in 1992. Take a tour to fully appreciate the significance of this old building, and learn more about the lives of the early settlers.

Adrienne Truscott: Asking For It

825 Hay Street, PERTH,
Perth, Western Australia 6000

A Perth Comedy Festival event. Adrienne Truscott's Asking For it: A one lady rape about comedy starring her p***y and little else. The sell out hit of the Sydney Festival returns for two nights only. Adrienne Truscott, one-half of the infamous Wau Wau Sisters, dressed only from the waist up and ankles down, undoes and does in the rules and rhetoric about rape, comedy and the awkward laughs in between. With commentary from George Carlin, Louis C. K. and Robert De Niro, ducks, whistles and enough gin and tonics to get a girl in trouble, she lets her p***y do the talking. Set to pop music. Can you make jokes about rape? She plans to, all night long. Even if you tell her to stop. Winner - 2013 Edinburgh Fringe Foster's Panel Prize. Winner - 2013 Malcolm Hardee Comic Originality.

Daniel Kitson: Polyphony

180 Hamersley Road, PERTH,
Perth, Western Australia 6008

A Perth Comedy Festival event. Polyphony. By Daniel Kitson. Daniel Kitson has written a play. It has a pretty epic scope, a relatively grand vision and somewhere in the region of twenty characters. It is, basically, a real humdinger. Unfortunately though, it is a script so ambitious, so demanding, so exquisitely detailed that handing an actor this text and putting them in front of an audience is like handing a toddler a pint of coffee and putting them in front of a zipwire. It won't end well. So instead, he has pre-recorded each actor, in isolation, onto a separate tape. Leaving a litany of individual voices - each of them perfect, captured on a tape that will, when played back in precise unison, form a glorious theatrical polyphony. The play is perfect. The tapes are perfect. He just needs enough people to press play. That's all.

Tom Ballard: Taxis and Rainbows and Hatred

Storthes Street, Corner Rookwood Street, PERTH,
Perth, Western Australia 6050

A Perth Comedy Festival event. Former triple j breakfast guy and host of ABC's Reality Check, Tom Ballard is back with his new hour of stand-up about something bad and weird that happened to him in a taxi. Tom sells out theatres across the country, has played the invitation only Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal, taken out the ARIA Award for Best Comedy Release and supported the likes of Stephen Merchant and Wil Anderson, who describes him as "one of the most original, fearless and hilarious voices in Australian comedy". That's pretty good. He's hosted SBS2's coverage of the 2014 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi-Gras, fronted The Project and appeared in series two of It's A Date. His new show gets stuck into loneliness, labels, sex, love and finding the courage to be one's self. With many jokes.

Akmal: Lost

474 Hay Street, PERTH,
Perth, Western Australia 6008

A Perth Comedy Festival event. Akmal is a comedian, although the term comedian is open to interpretation and highly subjective. Believe it or not, many people don't find him funny at all - this includes members of his own family: "If Akmal thinks he's funny, then I hope he's seeing a psychiatrist" Nabila Saad. "He should never have left his job at Telstra; he would've been manager by now" Marie Saleh. "I don't think he's funny, in fact I find him rather annoying. Whenever I see him I get an overriding urge to punch him in the face" Steven Huntsman (Akmal's Psychiatrist). Movies, sketch, stand-up, television, radio and talk-show host, Akmal is one of Australia's most respected and accomplished comics. Don't miss Akmal's new show Lost.
