Wherever you shop in Canberra, you'll find an abundance of local treasures.

Check out the unique art and craft on display in the huge handicraft store in the heart of Canberra. It showcases a wide range of products by local artisans, and is also the venue for a quarterly market selling handcrafted wares. You'll find lots of lovely gifts for children such as dolls houses, puppets, soft toys, wooden toys, charlotte dolls and marionettes. Pick up a musical instrument or an Australian-themed toy, whether it's a koala, kangaroo or witchetty grub.

There is also a huge range of enticing gifts for grown-ups. Shop for vintage jewellery, retro-inspired shoes or white ceramic jugs and jars that evoke rustic French kitchens. Find mock bearskin rugs, gumboots with girly designs, designer armchairs and arresting artworks.

Continue your shopping excursion along nearby Lonsdale Street, which is lined with funky gift stores and fashion boutiques. Canberra is also a hub for lots of wonderful markets. Find vintage treasures, second-hand books, jewellery and international foods at the Gorman House Markets, held in Braddon, near the city centre, each Saturday.  The markets join an eclectic retail mix that includes restaurants, hairdressing salons and stores selling unusual home wares and stylish Australian fashions.

There's a great sense of community in Canberra's popular Old Bus Depot Markets, held every Sunday in an old bus depot along the Kingston Foreshore. There are also more than 200 stalls, selling home wares, handcrafted jewellery, art, clothing, furniture and toys, together with regional produce and wine. Lunch here is a local tradition, with a great array of cuisines to tempt you. Listen to busking musicians as you snack on  freshly prepared food or sip on freshly roasted coffee.
 
Also held on Saturday morning, are the Capital Regional Farmers Market, where you can pick up fruit, vegetables, plants, flowers, seafood, meat and cheeses. On the first Sunday of the month, nearby Hall hosts a large craft market.
