THINGS TO DO

Meet celebrity chefs
With the region’s outstanding natural beauty and enviable reputation for fine food and wine, Margaret River Gourmet Escape attracts the world’s top culinary talent. This year’s international chefs include English chef, author and television presenter Rich Stein, Ashley Palmer- Watts from Dinner by Heston Blumenthal and David Thompson from Nahm in Bangkok. You’ll also see famous local faces such as Australian chefs Frank Camorra, Peter Gilmore and Mark Best.

Sample the best local produce
The Gourmet Village is the heart of the festival, located within the stunning grounds of Leeuwin Estate Winery. Festival-goers will have the chance to watch cooking demonstrates at the Chef's Theatre, take part in a Q&A session and sample local produce from some of Western Australia's top restaurants, winemakers and brewers. Get your hands dirty and join an intimate master class to discover chef’s secrets, which could cover filleting fish to making the most of Australia’s native produce.

Brunch with the best
Spend the morning in the charming gardens of Voyager Estate for Brunch with the Best. You’ll be dining alongside international culinary stars, including Joan Roca, Andoni Luis Aduriz and Dominique Crenn, all awarded in the 2016 World’s 50 Best Restaurants. Sit down to a decadent brunch, including Voyager Estate sparkling wine, while discussing the trends, controversies and hot topics in the world of food of wine.

Unleash your inner sommelier
Tap into your inner sommelier at the Margaret River Icon Tastings, which will take part on Saturday and Sunday in the festival’s Gourmet Village. Internationally acclaimed wine critic Nick Stock will guide participants through the Margaret River's outstanding Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. While the Margaret River is a relatively young wine region – the first grapevines were planted in 1967 – it has quickly established itself as one of Australia’s premier wine regions.

DON’T MISS

Book tickets to the Audi Gourmet Beach BBQ and dine on the shores of the Indian Ocean. Huge tepees will transform Castle Bay Beach into a stylish, waterfront eatery, as renowned Australian chefs – including Frank Camorra (Movida, Melbourne), Mike McEnearney (No.1 Bent St, Sydney) and Guillaume Brahimi (Guillaume, Sydney) – prepare a delicious menu matched to regional wines. Guests will enjoy a gin-inspired cocktail, created exclusively for the festival, canapés and local produce cooked on a sizzling grill.

Western Australia's wildflowers

Western Australia's wildflowers

Forget drab days and bleak landscapes. Winter in Western Australia breaks all the stereotypes. From June until September, more than 12,000 wildflower species explode across the state. Follow their vivid trail to Ningaloo Reef, where you can swim with whale sharks and snorkel over tropical fish and coral. Capture their life-affirming colour in rugged Kalbarri National Park, near Geraldton, or in sculpted Kings Park in Perth. Let them lead you to the waves, caves and wineries of Margaret River. Walk with them through soaring karri forests on the Bibbulmun Track or take in their dazzling diversity from Albany. Do wildflower day walks, join longer tours or celebrate the blooms with the locals at any of the many festivals.
