Nyerimilang Heritage Park

Nungurner Rd, Gippsland area,
Nungurner, Victoria 3909

Nyerimilang Homestead is set among semi-formal gardens on a cliff top above the beautiful Gippsland Lakes. Perfect picnic spots are surrounded by garden and scenic walks meander along bush and farm tracks, past Kurrajong trees, wetland areas and through the East Gippsland Indigenous Plant Garden. Walking tracks: - Whistling Kite Track (0.75 km - 10 mins one way): after a grassland walk, the track passes through various forest types. The Whistling Kite, a large brown hawk, nests in the tall Blue Gums that surround this short walk. - Homestead Track (1.1 km - 25 mins one way): the original entrance to Nyerimilang Homestead was via this track from Maringa Creek crossing. Leaving the homestead, the track gently descends through moist gully vegetation to swamp, then salt marsh. - Cliff Top Walk (1.7 km - 30 mins one way): the meandering, mostly level track affords the visitor panoramic views of the nearby lake system and Bass Strait beyond. - Kurrajong Track (0.75 km - 10 mins one way): this track is a link between Cliff Top and Homestead tracks. The Kurrajong, an evergreen native tree, is most obvious on the northern end of this track. - Salt Marsh Track (1.2 km - 25 mins one way): the track is from the Kalimna West road to Reeve Channel. The salt marsh environment surrounding the tidal Maringa Creek gives way to the sandy shoreline of the lake system. Before you go Conditions can change in parks for many reasons. Nicholson River Winery

57 Liddell's Rd, Gippsland area,
Nicholson, Victoria 3882

Nicholson River Winery was established in 1978 and is owned and operated by Juliet and Ken Eckersley. They make small quantities of speciality wines intended to be enjoyed with food. Varieties include Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Viognier, Pinot Noir, Syrah or Shiraz, Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. There are sparkling, botrytis and preservative-free wines, whilst the styles are more European than traditional Australian. The setting is picturesque with a commanding view of the Nicholson River and rolling hills. Platters of local cheese and antipasto are available and on select occasions wood-fired pizza can be enjoyed alfresco with a glass of wine . Nicholson River's Chardonnay is considered by many to be one of Australia's greatest Chardonny's. It is intense and powerful, but structure rather than really fruity like other Chardonnay's. It comes from a tiny little place on Victoria's east coast near Lakes Entrance. Nicholson River also has an excellent Pinot Noir that is definitely worth tasting a few times. 'Ken and Juliet Eckersley's Nicholson River is one of Victoria's most distinctive and beautiful wineries. Above a cliff on one side overlooking a Streeton-like view of the beautiful Nicholson River valley, with a broad panorama across the distant Gippsland Lakes and Bass Strait on the other side, the cellar door, an 1880 farmhouse, is the perfect place to chat with Ken, whose thoughtful, intelligent views on wine are refreshingly out of the mainstream. The wines made here cross a broad range of styles, with Chardonnay the most famous, Pinot Noir too, but the whole range of wines makes a unique tasting experience.' Gippsland Lakes Coastal Park

Sperm Whale Head Rd, Gippsland area,
Seacombe, Victoria 3851

The tranquil Gippsland Lakes are a system of coastal lagoons separated from the Tasman Sea by the coastal dunes of the Ninety Mile Beach. Seven rivers terminate at the lakes - the Latrobe, Avon, Nicholson, Tambo, Mitchell, Macalister and Thomson rivers. A favourite holiday destination for many Victorians, days can easily be filled with a range of activities on the water or on dry land. Boating and fishing are what attracts most to the lakes. You can bring your own boat or hire a cruiser, yacht or day boat. Surf fishing along Ninety Mile Beach, or lake fishing from a boat, bank or jetty is popular with Bream, Flathead, Skip Jack, Luderick and Mullet the main fish caught. Relax with a quiet paddle on the lake or river areas in a kayak or canoe. Take a walk on the beach or through the bush. Go for a swim along the sheltered lake shores. Explore the park west of Loch Sport on horseback. Aboriginal Traditional Owners Parks Victoria acknowledges the Aboriginal Traditional Owners of Victoria - including its parks and reserves. Through their cultural traditions, the Gunaikurnai identify the Gippsland Lakes Coastal Park as their Traditional Country. How to get there The Park can be reached by car from Paradise Beach, Golden Beach and Seaspray. Boat ramps are situated at Seacombe, Wattle Point, Paynesville, Metung, Nungurner, Loch Sport and Lakes Entrance for those travelling by boat. Ninety Mile Beach Marine National Park

Sperm Whale Head Rd, Gippsland area,
Seacombe, Victoria 3851

Located 30km south of Sale and adjacent to Gippsland Lakes Coastal Park, Ninety Mile Beach Marine National Park covers 5km of coastline. This untamed stretch of coastline runs alongside the slender strip of sand dunes that protect the Gippsland Lakes. Beneath the water, vast plains of sand stretch in every direction. However, the sand is not a monotonous as it may appear; wave action and currents sort sand particles into different groups and layers whilst surface features, such as mounds and ripples, are a result of animal and wave action. The coast does not have any rocky headlands or platforms, and offshore there are only a few ribbons of reef which are periodically covered by sand. These formed as shorelines or sand dunes during ice-ages when the sea level was lower than today. The huge subtidal sandy expanses characteristic of the area, are teeming with marine life. In fact, they are known to have one of the highest species diversity levels of any place on the planet, with 860 species discovered within 10 square meters. These sand dwelling critters can include tube building worms, small molluscs and many tiny crustaceans. Aboriginal Traditional Owners Parks Victoria acknowledges the Aboriginal Traditional Owners of Victoria - including its parks and reserves. Through their cultural traditions, Aboriginal people maintain their connection to their ancestral lands and waters. Indigenous tradition indicates that this park is part of the Country of the Gunaikurnai indigenous people. Before you go Conditions can change in parks for many reasons. Quality coffee, locally-sourced produce and a convivial atmosphere are the hallmarks of this funky cafe. The Coffee Collective is a funky café located in the heart of Wonthaggi, an authentic rural town located in south Gippsland, Victoria. The café's design is a contemporary industrial style space of exposed brick walls, funky counters and polished concrete floors. As the name suggests, coffee is of supreme importance at The Coffee Collective. Customers received Melbourne-quality coffee, each and every visit. Treks are on offer for all standards and ages of riders and can be tailor made to your convenience. Once out the gate, you will be crossing rivers and riding along narrow bush tracks through forests not touched by man, a true wilderness experience. A favourite half day ride is one that leads to the Blue Duck Inn,a pub in the middle of nowhere alongside the Cobungra River. A ride through the bush then a sip at the pub, and a shorter trek home, whatever the weather. Two comfortable eco-friendly rustic bush huts are available to those wanting a break away somewhere more remote. They are self-contained or catering can be arranged. Also available for riders, and non-riders is Packers Mountain Stay lodge style accommodation.
