Broome and surrounds
With a rich and colourful history built on the pearling trade, Broome is equal parts tropical beach escape and remote outback adventure.
The miles of soft white sand beaches and proximity to the Kimberley region make Broome a fantastic destination for relaxing coastal holidays as well as outback exploration. Ride a camel along Cable Beach, snorkel or dive Rowley Shoals or embark on a cruise through the Buccaneer Archipelago. If an outback adventure is on your bucket list, the Kimberley is still considered a largely untouched wilderness. Explore the ancient gorges and landscapes of Karijini National Park, take a 4WD adventure along the Gibb River Road and marvel at the enormous, beehive-shaped domes of the Bungle Bungles. Discover this vast wilderness with an Aboriginal guide on a bush tucker tour and learn how native ingredients are used for both food and medicine. Despite its remoteness, the Kimberley still offers incredibly luxurious accommodation options where you can unplug and reconnect with nature while still enjoying life’s little comforts. Don’t go home without treating yourself to the world’s most sought-after pearls, cultivated right in the Kimberley.
When to visit
Broome’s tropical weather is defined by a wet and dry season. The wet season generally lasts from November to April and is characterised by bursts of heavy rainfall, potential flooding and even the chance of cyclones between January and March. Even if you visit in the wet season you'll still be able to see some of the region's spectacular scenery. Take a scenic flight over thundering waterfalls and witness spectacular sunsets. Most tours and campgrounds operate year round, but some may close due to limited road access, so plan ahead. The dry season (April to October) is largely regarded as the best time to visit Broome as days will be warm and skies will be clear.
