Itinerary details

Day 1: U.S. to Melbourne, Australia

Today you will begin your Swain Destinations customized itinerary. Please note, international air has not been included in this package price. Ask about packaging your airfare into your customized itinerary.

Day 2: Cross the International Date Line

Cross the International Date Line, an imaginary line on the surface of the Earth that runs from the North to the South Pole and defines one calendar day from the next. Crossing the International Date Line adds one day (24 hours) traveling west and subtracts one day (24 hours) traveling east.

Day 3: Melbourne to Hobart

Kings Pier Marina, Hobart, Tasmania

Today you will arrive in Melbourne and fly onwards to Hobart. Just along the Hobart waterfront in Tasmania is Macq1 Hotel, a unique hotel designed to tell the story of Hobart's history. The spirit of Tasmania can be found throughout the hotel, from the architecture to the décor. The lounge is inspired by Aboriginal culture, while the reception area is reminiscent of discovery and the early settlement of the area.

Day 4: Tasmanian Seafood Seduction

The journey begins amongst the fishing boats in the heart of Hobart's vibrant waterfront. You'll be part of a small group of up to 12 guests. Settle back, relax and admire the surroundings cruising into the sheltered waters of the D'Entrecasteaux Channel that surround Bruny Island. Weaving the way along Bruny Island's coast, guests may help the guide to gather oysters, mussels, sea urchin and abalone from the pristine waters. Pull a crayfish at the southern tip of the island before dropping anchor in a secluded bay to help your guide skillfully prepare and serve the seafood bounty onboard.

Day 5: Moorilla Wine Meets MONA Art Day Tour

Moorilla Estate offers a rare and exciting combination of wine, food, art and luxury accommodation. Specializing in boutique cool climate wines, Moorilla shares its location with MONA - Hobart's infamous Museum of Old and New Art and home to Australia's largest private and thought-provoking art collection. MONA, the Museum of Old and New Art, is Australia's largest privately owned gallery and museum.

Day 6: Hobart to Saffire Freycinet, Freycinet National Park

Wineglass Bay, Freycinet National Park, Tasmania

The beautiful Tasmanian coast is highlighted by crystal waters, white beaches, and green hills and valleys. Saffire Freycinet is located just where mainland Tasmania meets the untouched peninsula. This gorgeous luxury lodge combines comfort and privacy with the stunning natural world of the Australian coastal area. Tasmanian timber furniture is cozy yet stylish, the contemporary design pairing perfectly with the building's modern architecture. Its seaside location means that the finest food and drink is readily available - the climate lends to striking cool-climate wines and local fishing areas provide endless fresh scallops, deep-sea fish and oysters.

Day 7: Schouten Island 

Step aboard the Saffire vessel to enjoy a portion of the exclusive Schouten Island Signature Experience. Schouten Island's vast and abundant eco-system has played a part in early Aboriginal settlement, and farming, mining and fishing in the area. Be engaged by close-up interactions with soaring sea birds, playful marine mammals and a diversity of life on Tasmania's temperate reefs. The adventure also includes a visit to culturally significant sites of past and present inhabitants. Behold the beauty of Freycinet Peninsula and discover Schouten Island on this memorable three-hour adventure. 

Day 8: Great Oyster Bay Blast

Buckle up for a fast-paced blast around Great Oyster Bay on board Saffire. The vessel is powered by three 350 horsepower outboards and can cruise at speeds of up to 45 knots. This one-hour adventure will take you out and around the bay to the mouth of Moulting Lagoon and Hazards Beach. Learn about Tasmania's extreme weather conditions and the hazardous livelihoods of some of the bay's past and present inhabitants. Enjoy the blast!

Day 9: Saffire to Mornington Peninsula

Point King Beach, Mornington Peninsula, Victoria

Enjoy a helicopter ride from Saffire Freycinet to Hobart where you will fly onward from Hobart Airport to Melbourne. Once in Melbourne, pick up your Budget rental vehicle and drive to Mornington Peninsula. From the city, take the Nepean Highway and drive south towards the Mornington Peninsula town of Frankston and on to Portsea. The Mornington Peninsula is Melbourne's year-round playground, rich in natural beauty, it has been captivating visitors for more than 100 years. The drive from downtown is around 60 miles and will take around 2 hours.

Day 10: Activities at Jackalope Hotel

Jackalope Hotel is framed by picturesque Willow Creek Vineyard acreage. Fertile grazing land for over 100 years prior, the 11-hectare Willow Creek Vineyard was planted in 1989 and has become renowned for its single vineyard wines. The Jackalope provides guests with ample opportunity to not only drink in the gorgeous scenery but also taste the Peninsula's best wines, food and pastoral pleasures at the hotel's onsite winery restaurant, the Rare Hare. Today, enjoy activities planned by the Jackalope Hotel or explore Mornington Peninsula at your leisure.

Day 11: Mornington Peninsula to Apollo Bay

Today you will drive from Mornington Peninsula to Apollo Bay. Head west and take the ferry across from Sorrento to Queenscliff and continue to Apollo Bay. Allow about four hours for the drive today without stops. A superb stay right in town, designed with couples in mind, and to a true standard incorporating a unique nautical flavor based on the history of the site. The guest lounge and dining room, set up restaurant style, is warm, relaxed and elegant, with a huge open fire, bar and espresso.

Day 12: Great Ocean Road to Daylesford

Lorne, Great Ocean Road, Victoria

At your leisure depart Apollo Bay and continue along the Great Ocean Road. Discover a diverse array of things to see and do in the region, from outdoor activities such as surfing, scuba diving and sea kayaking to arts, cultural and heritage attractions. Admire the stunning coastline on the Great Ocean Walk, get up close to native wildlife at Tower Hill and explore surf towns and seaside villages. Enjoy fine dining up and down the coast and stock up at local winemakers and dairy farms along the way.

Day 13: Daylesford to Melbourne

Today you will drive Daylesford to Melbourne, which is an 80-minute drive from Daylesford. Melbourne is renowned for playing host to a number of nationally and internationally recognized events each year including the Australian Open Tennis Grand Slam, the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix and the ever-impressive two mile horse race, The Melbourne Cup - a major event in Melbourne which spreads an addictive buzz through the city streets. You can be sure that locals and visitors alike will embrace the energy surrounding it.

Day 14: Lanes and Arcades Private Tour and Melbourne After Dark

Join this indulgent morning walk through Melbourne's beautiful back streets and become orientated in the life of the city that locals love. Discover local designers and specialty retailers that often are only found in the city. Some of the quirkiest cafes, independent designers, street art, architecture and historical tales are found here. At night, embark on tour as the sun goes down and the lights come. See the city come alive at night. Marvel at the heritage buildings throughout the Golden Mile. Be mesmerized by St Patrick's Cathedral, Melbourne's Royal Botanic Gardens and the World Heritage-listed Royal Exhibition Building.

Day 15: Colonial Tramcar Lunch

Dining in Melbourne can be a fabulous experience, especially aboard the fleet of historical trams that have become The Colonial Tramcar Restaurant. These glossy, burgundy restaurants on wheels are the first travelling tramcar restaurants in the world and ensure a delightful innovative approach to dining. Today, dine in style aboard the unique Colonial Tramcar Restaurant. Enjoy a set menu of fine Australian cuisine as you travel around the city aboard this specially renovated Tramcar. The tracks take you around the Melbourne area past the city center and into the more exclusive suburbs Melbourne is known for.

Day 16: Melbourne to U.S.

Your driver will meet you near the front lobby area of your accommodation. You will be transferred by private vehicle from the city to Melbourne Airport where you will begin your journey back to the U.S.
