Gold Coast and surrounds
The Gold Coast is famous for its beaches and family-friendly theme parks, but get off the main strip to find quaint neighbourhoods, incredible restaurants and lush hinterland waiting to be explored.
Whether you’re coming with the kids or keen to sip in style on one of the area’s hippest rooftop bars, the Gold Coast punches well above its weight for attractions and experiences to suit every type of traveller. Get your adrenaline pumping at the famous theme parks, climb to the top of the iconic Q1 Resort Building, skydive over the beach or learn to surf at any one of the incredible beaches that dot the coastline. If you’re more into lounging poolside, you can get your fix of incredible day spas, hinterland waterfalls and swimming holes or calm creeks that are perfect for stand up paddleboarding. When it’s time to refuel, head to any of the area’s top restaurants, craft breweries or beachside cafes for excellent meals that champion local produce.
When to visit
With around 300 days of sunshine per year, you’ll be challenged to find a bad time to visit the Gold Coast. Summer is certainly the busiest time of year, but with over 57 kilometres (35 miles) of coastline, you’ll be able to find a spot to lay your towel. Autumn and winter bring some of the area’s most exciting sporting events, such as the Quiksilver and Roxy Pro and the Gold Coast Marathon. Spring is the ideal time to head to the hinterland or stroll the beach during the SWELL Sculpture Festival.
