A South Coast culinary road trip with Hayden Quinn
Follow in Hayden’s footsteps as you explore a coast of culinary delights.
Home to fertile paddocks and clean seas, New South Wales offers some epic foodie destinations. During the filming of the TV series Taste of Australia, adventure foodie Hayden Quinn set out to find what – and who – makes this state’s produce so special.
Let Hayden lead you through the stunning (and scrumptious) South Coast of New South Wales.
Glittering waters, white sandy beaches and rolling green hills are just a few of the things that make New South Wales’ Grand Pacific Drive one of Australia’s most scenic road trips. Even better, Hayden discovered the stunning culinary experiences hidden within the coastal beauty.
The 140-kilometre (87-mile) Grand Pacific Drive begins just south of Sydney and takes in the gorgeous South Coast, ending in the Shoalhaven region. You won’t have to wait long to find your first epic experience; the impressive Sea Cliff Bridge seems to float above the ocean. Be sure to stretch your legs on the Sea Cliff Bridge walk – according to Hayden, the panoramic views and salty sea air are well worth the effort.

As you follow the curling coast, you’ll find yourself in Kiama. Visit the famous blowhole, stop by the Kiama Farmers Markets, and look out for migrating humpback whales from the viewing platforms in nearby Minnamurra and Gerringong between May and November. Don’t leave without heading to Diggies for a prawn roll – they’re legendary among locals.
Continue south along the coast to the popular holiday spot of Jervis Bay to marvel at some of the whitest sand beaches in the world, complete with crystal clear waters perfect for scuba diving or snorkelling with Dive Jervis Bay. If you’re a true foodie, you can’t go past a feast of seafood at Rick Stein at Bannisters in Mollymook, about a one-hour drive from Jervis Bay.

Once you’ve explored the coast, it’s time to head back north, but this time taking the picturesque inland route. On the way, stop in at the pretty country town of Berry. Savour the famous fresh and delicious cinnamon donuts from the Berry Donut Van before driving just 15 minutes to take a farm tour of the family-run Buena Vista Farm.
