10 things to do in Melbourne for under $10
Have fun in Melbourne for less than a tenner. And, more often than not, walk away with change.
Melbourne’s streets are an adventure in themselves - dubbed as one of the street art capitals of the world (be sure to check out Hosier Lane), there’s always plenty to see… for FREE. Plus, they have quite the reputation (just ask any local) for great coffee, killer shopping and a culture that’s made of rooftop cinemas, live music and laneway bars. It’s a must-see city - but how can you get the most bang for your buck? We share the top 10 things to do that’ll cost you no more than a single blue note.
Hit the Royal Botanic Gardens
Throw yourself in the general direction of the great outdoors for the bargain price of zero dollars. BYO entertainment / spritzes / mates.
Stop in at The Penny Black for $4 pizzas and other sweet meal deals. This joint is a must-do every Monday you’re in Melbourne. Or, hit them up at happy hour where you can enjoy basics and wine for just 6 bones.
Cement your standing as a pool shark
There are plenty of budget-friendly food options in Melbourne, but Pablo Honey (in the hipster suburb of St Kilda) is definitely worth a mention. Take your pick of how you want to spend your dosh - will it be the $1 chook wings or the time date drink deal? That’s two for $10 Tecate tinnies between the hours of 4.20 and 7pm, Monday to Fridays. So much winning.
Here at Aussie News Today, we are constantly finding ways to feature this delicious drink in hopes of dominating your social feed. And can you blame us? It’s like a grown-up version of the Rainbow Paddlepop. It’s called a rainbow latte and you’ll find it at Brighton’s Too Many Chiefs for under $5. You are so very welcome.
Sweat it out
Get yourself in some retro workout gear and get ready to dance like no one’s watching. No Lights No Lycra is the dance class you do in the dark. Yes, IN THE DARK. While this means no one can see your dope moves, it also means no one can judge you. Yeah, you know what we’re talking about. For $7 a class, this is the best way to work those buns on a budget.
Ask any local (thanks Jack) and they’ll point you in the general direction of the $6 pints at The Grace Darling in Collingwood for Happy Hour. Melbourne’s second oldest pub, you’ll find live music here most nights as well.
Chow down for cheap
The Banh Mi at Nhu Lan in Footscray should well and truly come with a warning: the kick-you-in-the-mouth chilli is crazy fresh and beyond addictive. Lucky for you, at $5 a pop, you can enjoy two on your budget.
Go window shopping
Ok, this one sounds kind of lame at first but let us give you the low-down: Melbourne is known for having some of the best shops in Australia, so it’s well worth a stroll around town. For inspiration, if nothing else. Be sure to stop in at The Block Arcade in the city centre. Perfect for taking shots to send home for a wish list, yes?
