9 of Perth's best breakfast and brunch spots
Being active, outdoorsy people, Perth residents are big fans of breakfast. They love it overlooking the ocean, in hidden backyard café gardens, in heritage buildings and on neighbourhood corners.

Breakfast in Perth is an event. Eggs are taken seriously, bacon is never far away and the acai bowl trend is thriving. Friends come together wearing beach clothes and leading their dogs, or dressed up in heels and designer threads, depending on the destination. Many Perth venues serve breakfast well into the afternoon. Here's our list of the best.
Sayers Sister, Northbridge
Vintage light fittings, masses of framed pictures and a huge communal table made of distressed brick fill the eclectic interiors of this ever popular café near leafy Hyde Park. The leek croquettes and poached eggs sitting in warm, leek-infused cream never come off the menu at Sayers Sister – for good reason. Caramelized banana waffles with butterscotch sauce, is another star performer.
Post, city centre
Whether or not you're staying at COMO The Treasury, you're welcome to slide into a seat in Post’s peaceful white surrounds and order its five-star food. We recommend the zucchini rosti with smoked salmon and poached eggs, finished off with lemon mascarpone. Clean-eaters will enjoy the house baked granola and their muscle milk smoothie made from banana, coconut, cinnamon and almond milk. Post's fresh vegetable juices are also worth ordering.
Moore & Moore, Fremantle
In keeping with the wholefood loving vibe of Fremantle, all the bacon served at Moore & Moore is nitrate free. There are vegan options, such as their moore mushrooms served with salsa verde, baby kale, almond feta, and toasted gluten free toast. Or go for the organic, free range eggs paired either with sage pumpkin mash and walnuts, or avocado, peas and haloumi. Make yourself at home in the sunny backyard garden, or in a well worn antique armchair in the heritage listed Moore's Building, which also has a contemporary art gallery.
Bib & Tucker, North Fremantle
Sitting above the Fremantle Surf Lifesaving Club, Bib & Tucker is a casual restaurant with fantastic ocean views. Named after a pair of bushrangers, it’s part owned by former Olympic swimming gold medallist, Eamon Sullivan. With 13 breakfast options – including a breakfast pizza – there are plenty of ways to improve your morning. The banana pancakes, with salted caramel sauce, double cream and pecans, are particularly good.
Uncle Joe's Mess, city centre
Tucked behind a hipster barber shop, Uncle Joe's Mess is an atmospheric urban café in the heart of the city, on one of Perth’s most fashionable streets. The acai bowl is nearly as good as the thick, hand-cut and smoked bacon (the chef dry cures it using juniper berries, fennel salt and cumin). It comes with poached eggs and creamy dill bearnaise sauce.
The Shorehouse, Swanbourne
Views, attractive clientele and tasty food greet you at The Shorehouse in Swanbourne. The Indian Ocean looks its best before 11am, so arrive early and get a seat beneath a yellow umbrella on the deck. If you want simple, try the eggs your way served with chargrill sourdough. Alternatively, go for wood roasted broccolini, beetroot hummus, goats curd, walnuts and topped with poached eggs.
Tuck Shop Café, city centre
It’s busy, noisy and there's often a queue at Tuck Shop in Northbridge, but all of this is worth dealing with to get a taste of the bacon bruschetta, which layers fresh tomatoes, goats cheese, avocado chunks and basil leaves on sourdough. The salmon version comes a close second, but honestly, whatever you order will shine.
Pinchos, Leederville
Hearty breakfasts may not be strictly authentic, but this tapas bar in Leederville keeps its food as Spanish as possible. The British chef-owner of Pinchos uses his holidays in Spain as inspiration and serves up value dishes such as torrijas - a Spanish style french toast served with saffron poached pears and honey (as good as it sounds) and a filling bowl of baked beans, black sausage and chorizo. There's coffee, or there’s sangria on tap.
Toast, East Perth
Facing picturesque Claisebrook Cove in East Perth, Toast serves up numerous styles of bread, toasted, and much more. In all, there are 15 types, including rye, Turkish, raisin and fig and walnut bread. Choose a topping, or opt for something more substantial such as the avocado, pea and mint smash, or corned beef hash with a fried egg and salsa verde.
